Greeting, my fellow Grumblers!

I know there are ready-made high end frames that are made up of a piece of glass backing, and a smaller piece centered in front, and you can slide the photo in and out between the two. There is no moulding! No clips! Just glass adhered to glass...very clean and contemporary.

I'm interested in having a quantity made but in smaller custom sizes.

Any leads on who I might contact to have a prototype made with a quanatity to follow???

thanks for any info.

I don't think this will be of much help to you but, when I managed the HL frame shop in So. IL this past summer, we carried a line of glass readymade photo frames that were made exactly like you describe. They were 2 pieces of 3/8" and 1/2" plate glass glued together and their edges were bevelled nicely. I don't know who manufactured them but they did have a tag on them and, if you have a HL close by, you could do a bit of scouting and maybe find that it is cheaper in the long run to buy from the manufacturer that supplies HL than to manufacture them yourself.

Good luck in your search.

Try a Bedford Downing. It's been a long time since I have thought of them, but I think that is the name. They make a line of glass frames.

Talk to John Ranes II. He used to carry them and may give you a tip or two. Until some 5 yrs ago they were very hot and sold all over the places. Haven't seen much of them lately (last 2-3 yrs).
That floated frame was some NY glazier's design inspiration (Bedford Downing). Hope they are still around and doing well. I liked those frames too.

Bedford Downing has a great selection and is a pleasure to work with. Ingo, the owner has always been receptive to any of our needs. Also remember that these are made in the USA--Brooklyn I believe. The quality is excellent.

As opposed to being made in China, in which case glass would be less transparent???
The making of those frames implys very simple technologies. I bet one would find Mexicans, Chinese and Russians, hardly speaking any English, actually making those frames, in Brooklyn, for Bedford. Perhaps their food and freedom may explain the excellent quality of their work.
