Can anyone help? I need to know the camera requirements and other specs to use with Frame Vue. I cannot find this at the Frame Vue web site. The camera I was going to use can only run on battery.

Thanks

Hello

To use the remote control feature (zoom, shutter, etc), you'll want to use it on a PC that has Windows XP.

The cameras that work in this manner, with XP, include certain Canon PowerShot models. The recommended model is the Canon S5 IS. This is what we use in our shop. Some folks also use the new SX 110 IS, which has a lower price.

Recommended camera for XP only: Canon PowerShot S5 IS (Street price is about $289-$329)

Recommended power supply/battery eliminator (for S5 IS): Canon CA-PS700 ~$44-$59
-or-
Recommended power supply/battery eliminator (for SX 110 IS): Canon ACK800 ~$39.99

Universal ceiling bracket: ~ $10 Item MCB1B at www.amazon.com

USB active extension cable (extends USB range ~16 feet each, up to 5 units can be daisy chained)
Sources: www.usbgear.com USBG-2U16 $16.98, www.amazon.com E07-110 $17.99

Examples: 4 ft included cable + 16ft repeater (20' total), 4 ft included cable + 16ft repeater + 16ft repeater (36' total), etc

Mike, can this camera work plugged into a wall outlet and without batteries?

Absolutely. I never suggest using batteries for visualization. That would just get too expensive :)

Here is the unit that works with this camera, and some sources:

Mike, can we use the Frame vue with Vista. I am considering Frame vue but I think I was told you cant use with vista.

That will soon change, but you'll need a certain Canon EOS model. The S5 IS and SX-110 models will work with XP only. Canon will not be releasing Vista or Windows 7 drivers for their PowerShot series.

Details will be provided with the next version of FrameVue, which is currently in beta.

Mike could the dell link not be working.
when I click it it goes to google broken link screen

Mike the tech page of the 110 camera says the camera supports vista.

Is it the visulizer software that does Not support vista?

I am using the IF software.

Hi

Well, technically, the camera will connect with Vista and Windows 7; using their software. But Canon is not releasing the Vista or Windows 7 drivers (SDK/Software Development Kit) to third party developers, for the PowerShot series. This is the proprietary software routine that a programmer would put in their product to control the camera. Now they only offer these drivers for their higher end products, such as the EOS series. Canon wants to buy the pricier models :)

It does work with Vista if you use the the Canon software to take the picture, and then the visualization software to load the jpg image, but that's an extra step.

For now, it's best to use XP with visualization systems - if you are using the Powershot series of cameras.

That makes it perfectly clear thanks....
