Frame is bleeding

It is intriguing how the discolouration of the wood is more pronounced around the v-nails. I would guess that the timber could have been a bit green when the moulding was manufactured but I have never seen a stick bleed like that, even stuff which I have had on shelves near my ceiling which gets pretty warm in summer due to a tin roof and zero insulation. It is also unlikely in my opinion that the gas fire is an issue - most chimney walls would only be a couple of degrees warmer than the rest of the room and the rising heat from the fire would not be that extreme.

I wonder if the frame was hung in a hot spot where the sun beat directly on it for an hour or so each day or was subjected to more than usual ambient heat, possibly by being left in a car or a tin shed or some other unsuitable storage? I have also seen frames damaged by having hot lights placed too close to them.

I strongly suspect there is more to this story than the customer has told you.

Next time I do a post for a PPFA meeting I am calling it "PPFA is bleeding" that should get some attention.

.... It also dripped onto the customers wall had she has been unable to find anything that will remove it.

The customer states that it dripped onto the wall! Since when does a liquid flow sideways vs down.

Sorry I deleted the rest of my comments as I did not see the second page of comments.

Since it appears to be sap is the culprit contact a log home builder. They build with pine, they have to deal with sap. Let them know that sap has stained the drywall and ask what they would use to clean it.

It might be cheaper to cut the stained drywall section off and replace it :) Not as drastic a repair as it sounds, just cut and tape and spackle and paint. Could be done in an hour, a thorough cleaning could take days and never be right, there would be an oily residue always lurking under the paint waiting to rear it's ugly head....

This exact same thing happened in our guest bedroom. We still haven't gotten the sap off the wall. The picture and frame had been my mom's before she moved in with us over 15 years ago. I have no idea how old the picture and frame were. Thanks for your forensic work on this problem. Now I need to get the sap off the wall.
