Just caught part of a segment of Martha Stewart's show. She had a segment on gold leafing handcrafted picture frames. They showed the entire process. The segment ended with them showing a gallery (or museum) working on a frame 21ftx12ft being specially built for the the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware. Didn't see the beginning but what I saw was interesting.

Martha asked what the frame would cost. Response was $500 - $700 thousand.

for the Met - you can be sure that its more like the higher figure. And still a year for delivery......... it looked like that frame was almost done.

I'm pretty sure they said completion wasn't scheduled until 2010. But the shots of them working on it did show it pretty far along. The basic four legs looked together and they were adding the hand carved parts. Maybe 2010 was for everything including fitting and hanging.
