This is sort of a cross between computer techie stuff, and business stuff. Those of you who have web sites: Do you mind my asking how much a month you pay the host for that service? We're looking around, and have found a pretty good looking one for $45/month that includes quite a bit. We're wondering if that's a good deal or not. Comments, please.

Value Web - $19.95 - basic hosting service.

I have no interest in an online merchant account.
If they want to buy something from me, they call call or email.

I have 6 domains/companies and use HOSTWAY.COM for each of them. Our previous ISP was unfortunately inside the World Trade Center, and we switched 9/12/01 to this company. Hostway has been incredible.

We pay $7 or $8/month for the framing domain, and $18/month for the others. (the others have a lot of disk space and bandwidth requirements, and the frame shop doesn't)

I signed up as a reseller for them, so I get a commission for anyone that signs up; but you can get the same prices by going directly to their web page.

They offer both Unix(best) and Microsoft NT(slower and less reliable) server platforms and have an impressive computer room with multiple feeds.

There are dozens of companies out there at $7/month or less, but I question how long they'll last. I suspect many are probably in the owner's basement or run by people who will soon be going off to college.

I've been using addr.com for about two years now at $8.99/mth. No complaints. I needed their tech support when I first setup and they were very helpful. Haven't needed them since.

When we were looking for a host, I spent about 12 hours searching through http://www.HostSearch.com/. The number of host sites out there is truly staggering.

We settled for http://www.oneononeinternet.com/ mainly 'cause I liked their Control Panel. For $15.95 I get 100 megs of storage and 50 email accounts and a lot more features that I haven't found a use for, yet. If you pay every quarter it is less. My site is only about 10 megs big, so it is probably more than I need, but I am constantly fiddling 'round with it and it never gets smaller!

In the eight months or so I have been online, "One on One" has not been down that I was aware of.

And they will automatically renew your domain name for free if you stay with them a year.
