MARGARET ADAMS Point of Origin
CHRISTINE CARR Threshold
MARY RHODOMOYER Observations: Winter 2004

MFA Photography Exhibitions
at
Temple Gallery of the Tyler School of Art

Philadelphia-Temple Gallery in Old City features the thesis exhibitions
of
three artists working with various photographic processes including
black
and white, color and digital images. The exhibitions open on May 12 and
run through May 15.

Margaret Adams’ Point of Origin is a family portrait series of 20" x
24"
selenium-toned black and white images shot with an 8 x 10 view camera.
The
images were created in the rural town of Statesville NC, her childhood
home, and in Cleveland, North Carolina on Scotch-Irish Plantation, her
family farm. Marriage, education, and geographic relocation have
created a
distance between the family and place of her childhood and what it is
now.
The family members in her photographs are conduits to aspects of
herself
that she loves and hates and allows her to reflect her emotions,
thoughts,
and feelings in a visual and physical way.

Christine Carr’s group of 24" x 30" color landscapes is an excerpt from
an
ongoing body of work combining the freedom of driving with exploration
of
place, and the resulting emotional landscapes as they pertain to the
state
of mind while photographing. This group called Threshold reflects not
only
the literal transition between day and night, but also straddles the
real
and unreal in imagery that suggests the time when one contemplates the
past and present but anticipates the possibilities of an unknown
future.

Mary Rhodomoyer’s Observations: Winter 2004 is the first of a series of
portfolios in observance of a fishing pier at Lake Nockamixon in Bucks
County. The fishing pier is where her family lived when they moved to
this
area. The series is not, however about personal memory, but
internalization of place. The surroundings are interpreted in regards
to
the rhythms and language written by nature. The show is grounded in
giving
the viewer a sense of place by revealing the details of the winter
months.
