This is a small pastel called Time's Patterns, by an artist named Kathleen O'Bryan. I came across her at the Santa Fe flea market about 11 years ago and bought this. Later I bought a larger pastel by her at a gallery in Madrid, New Mexico. On both, she put a decorative border around the piece. She now lives and works in Maui.

Anyway, I found this way in the back corner of a closet at home, and decided it's time to reframe it. I used only materials on-hand in the shop. The frame is LJ's Belmont. Triple mat, with a southwestern-style opening for the top two mats, done on my Wiz. The bottom mat is black, to provide a smooth transition to the black paper that she paints on. There's a 4-ply mat spacer between the bottom mat and the top two mats. Museum glass, because I'm special. I started it about 5 pm yesterday, and finished it about 30 minutes ago. Usually when doing something for myself, it takes me several weeks to decide on mats and frame.

Nice, Paul...

... just how much did you charge this very difficult customer and were they looking over your shoulder every step of the way???

This guy is a freakin' cheapskate. He insisted that I only use materials left over from other jobs, and since the materials had already been paid for by other customers, he refused to pay anything more for them.

Did you tell him that you bought the materials and you are still waiting for the profit margin on the materials. They are not used up yet? Still waiting to make $$$

Paul, I have a guy at my shop that is just as bad if not worse. He will have me reframe a photo a couple of times and then never bothers to pick it up once it is done.

"I didn't charge the customer for the matboard he didn't receive" I would have said.

You don't see donut shops giving away the donut holes. They sell quite a bit of them.

I suppose this yayhoo did nothin' but complain about the finished work, too. I hope you left a little booger in there for him. hmph.

I like the framing treatment. Playful, decorative but not kitschy.

Maybe I will frame my New Mexico photo(s) just like this! (maybe not... since I fired myself as a customer!)

edie the cheapanddemanding goddess

That's a great design, Paul. I like how you managed
to use special cuts that enhanced the artwork. So often,
they detract from it.

At least, get the cheapskate to buy you a drink. oy.

I can never design for myself either.Maybe thats why when friends come over the first thing they say is ok so you have a frame shop so wheres your pictures.:nuts:But seriously that looks great.
