My customer brought in a handful of photos of her oldest dearest friend who had just passed on. The memorial service was to be held down near New York City so she also brought in her suitcase so I could cobble something together to display at the service but would fit in her suitcase. No frame, no glass. She left it up to me.

This is what I devised with rag matting, coroplast backing and black grosgrain ribbon ties. The hardest part was making the holes in the artcare board. That stuff is like iron!

Plus I gave her a piece of brown corrugated to place over the top mat for transport and it contained a card with display instructions.

My customer is 86 and she had known her friend since they were in second grade.......

It is quite wonderful to see a framer's talent and creativity put to such good use. Well done, Mar.

Thanks, Kirstie. I am an avid "book-maker" and archivist so this came quite naturally to me. And I had to try to out-think anyone who would come in contact with the tryptych so they would have a hard time wrecking it.

Oh, Ellen, I never heard of the hole drill before - I was using a hand paper punch and finally my rotary leather punch - the Boards were too thick for the three-hole punch. I guess I shoulda used Crescent....

Gonna hafta get me a hole drill! :)

That came out very nice Mar! I also like the rounded corners (did you sand them???)

Sad story though, I can't imagine loosing such a close friend. Almost 80 years of friendship....

hmm, for some reason I can't submit my reply....yuck!

I rounded the corners with my ancient Corner Rounder, a left-over from Kramer the Framer's days as a professional portrait photographer. He was going to throw it away and when I expressed an interest he gave it to me. Even worked on the coroplast by doing it twice (once on each side). I love that little machine!
