It's been a while since I've posted so here goes.

I'm looking for some instruction

. I have a customer who wants a vinyl record and it's sleeve mounted between two pieces of glass and framed so that it can be seen from both sides.

The first problem would be how to mount this so it doesn't move, it is a collectors piece.

Secondly, how would I hang this so that the hanger isn't seen through the glass.

The customer has no prefence between wood or glass.

I'm hoping that someone has tackled this one and can share some pointers.

Thanks in advance,
Lori

Layout the record and cover on flaw board, trace around the record and cover. Take to a plastic fabricator and have the openings cut out and the edges polished. Assemble 3 layers of glazing with records placed in the middle layer.

Lori -
If your looking for wood moulding, you might want to contact Xylo Molding in Savannah, GA (800-627-5040) www.xylomolding.com - They have a variety of moulding that is used for framing stained glass - rabbet is in the middle of the moulding so you have a finished look on both sides. I would apply a suitable top hanger (chain - braided nylon or hemp rope ;) )

Dave's method is creative, but would put the items in direct contact with the outer glazing. Adding an insulating air gap would make the design better, to buffer against temperature changes and condensation.

Use the cut-to-fit acrylic sheet to retain the pieces, and put sheets of clear film and double mats on both sides of the items to hold them in position. Double mats make the insulating air gap front and back. In the interest of weight, I'd use acrylic on both sides, as well as in the center.

That is, from front to back the assembly would be: Museum Optium Acrylic (UV filter and anti-reflective coatings), double alphacellulose mat, clear film, clear acrylic, clear film, double alphacellulose mat, and OP3 UV-filtering acrylic.

That would serve the preservation criteria, and still make the neat frame package Dave described.

Lori, You failed to mention whether the customer is requesting mats or wishes to see the record "floating" in the frame with a couple of inches of glass around so that they see through the framing...

So Dave and Jim are correct:

If they want mats, substitute the clear acrylic for 8-ply rag; it's cheaper.

If they want that "see through", substitute the double mat with an 1/8" acrylic mat both sides that just tip over the edges of the album cover.

That's why the G, is so great. We all see things different depending on our perspective.

(sorry Dave) Everyone has a Photographic memory, most people are just set on "Macro" only.

Thankyou everyone. I hadn't thought of the acrylic idea. That's perfect for what the customer is looking for. I even have a friend who can do that for me.

Once again, I appreciate the responses.
Lori
