I am not exactly sure of the name for them but I have always referred to them as "flexible spacers". Can anyone tell me who sells them and if they are worth having in stock for ovals etc? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean flexible fillets from Frank's Fabrics or actual flexible spacers?

I've always just used short sections of spacers on ovals.

:popc:

We had a customer bring in a crewl that they wanted in an oval frame, a sliver oh a mat, spacers, and non glare glass. Apparently the person who took the order didnt know that we dont put spacers in an oval frame and the customer was not happy when I told them that. They insisted on it so I used #6 econospace self-stick and cut a niche in it about every inch so it would bend but not be in pieces. It worked but in some spots, if you look sideways at it, you can see a hint of the spacer. My old boss told me they made "flexible spacers" just for ovals and circles. I did some research and came up with nothing on the flexible spacers but did find info on the fillets (not much). Do they work just like a fillet or a spacer?

What about convex glass in the oval? Wouldn't be non-glare, but would give the space you need.

Using the frame as a template glue layers of 1 or 2-ply rag board together (to each other, not to the frame) until you have built it up to the thickness desired. Think about the construction of a wooden tennis racket.

or...got a CMC? cut a couple skinny oval mats that fit under the lip of the frame.

Not necessarily archival, but the flexible plastic tubing used in aquariums would work. If cut to fit a bit tight, it would probably stay in place with no fasteners.

I'll bet he is thinking of that c-tubing that is meant to keep glass from rattling in metal frames. I've used that once in a while... but the CMC Mat Sliver is now our spacer of choice on ovals.

How about the silicone spline used to secure screen mesh into a screen door frame. Silicone might not be the best archival product though but a small bead of silicone deep into the rabbet would hold it in place and the spline does come in several diameters...????

I am a female but anyways, I thought about the screen door seals and cutting various mats to use as spacers but I could get away with it with any other client but not this one. I was told today they picked it up saturday and actually turned it on its side to make sure there was in fact a spacer used and not something else. I can bet that some if not most of you have your extremely picky customers, this is one of mine. I will use foamcore and matboard to a spacer in an oval/circle frame because the self stick #6 was a pain to use.

Sombody has their terminology wrong. FrameSpace 6 is the "S" shaped permanent spacer that actually grips over the edge of the glass. It will work as a spacer in an oval fame as small as 8 x 10.

The EconoSpace (peel and stick stuff also from FrameTek) will not work well in an oval frame.

If you have a CMC - cut a 3/16 wide oval mat that just barely fits inside the frame.
