We are ready to get a Fletcher CMC. Have any of you Fletcher users added the end trimmer? Has it been benefical to you and and worth the added cost. Also same question about the set-up and training. Thanks for your help.

I am presently planning the same purchase. My Valiani will have the end trimmer, at least two cutting heads and the debosser.

I highly recommend the set up and training, especially if this will be your first CMC. It can make the difference between making it "hum" or making it "sing" in the frst few weeks. And long term, there are probably some features you might not think to try if they aren't pointed out to you.

And if it is beloved, why is it being replaced?

Value of End Trimmer...

Hi JBolduc

FYI - The end trimmer is an accesory that can be added to the Mat Pro CMC, but will not work on the next three models. It is definitely a convenience when you desire to do a quick trim and don't want to walk over to your wall cutter.

So if you're wall cutter is within the same distance away, then I'd say no. If your wall cutter is on the other side of the room, then the dollars are probably well spent.

BTW - You can always add this to your Mat Pro CMC at any time later.

Regards,

John

Rick: What is going to become of your beloved F-6100?

FrameMakers: And if it is beloved, why is it being replaced?

Rick & Dave:

The F6100 is a very good machine. It still works perfectly and, truth be told, still may be among the most durable CMCs ever built in its price range. There's a lot of life left in this machine. When I buy my new CMC, I will sell my F6100 to another framer who can provide it a good home for many years to come.

Why replace it? Good question. I haven't absolutely made up my mind about that yet, but I'm leaning that way. The new Valiani MatPro150 design has much more in the way of features and custom cutting capability.

In terms of financial strategy, right now my F6100 is worth about half the price of a new Valiani machine, which makes it a really good deal for another framer ready to buy his/her first CMC. By the same token, that cost/value ratio makes upgrading equally affordable for me.

Jim- does that machine have a PathTrace or Corel vector import type function?
 Rick

..uh, yeah. Probably. :kaffeetrinker_2:

Rick, I'm just a framer. One of these days I may be a pretty good custom-mat-graphics designer, but today I don't have a clue and that's one good reason for me to upgrade. I know the Valiani machines have effective and user friendly graphics capability (I've watched them do it at the shows), but I've not gotten far into the software to know the particulars.

I'll get a lot of answers in Las Vegas.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to researching that too. I know Brian Wolf has a book of design "recipes" for the Wizard, and wonder if these are adaptable to the Valiani and other machines (even the F-6100). I've got classes scheduled for both current machines. The production advantages of a machine are pretty obvious, but I'm interested in the potential as a design tool too- not for hearts and bunnies, but for subtle variations to the kinds of things we already do, to just take the designs to another level. Brian is a master at that approach.
 Rick

I dunno, Rick. The software developers for these companies put a lot of work into their programs. I would bet they are all proprietary, and not interchangeable among brands of CMCs.
