I just bought a Fletcher 2200 60" Mat Cutter. I have never used a fletcher but from what I understand it seems to be the best out their since CH are hard to find.

My mat guide does not slide easily. Will it loosen up in time?

John Raines slides it with one finger in the Fletcher video.

KL, was it John's middle finger?

Welcome to The Grumble. Someone will be able to give you a serious answer. I removed the stops and guides from my Fletcher matcutter, so I don't remember how many fingers it took to move them.

I've had one for 3+ years---it arrived with a loose head that wouldn't do right until it was so tight it didnt want to slide---they shipped a new one after I talked to a rep--no charge, just the labor of swapping the cut arm.... check the top & side adjustments---they must be tooooo tight(it came this way or you've been playing with the new toy???). the answer to the ?----yes it will loosen up, but only AFTER the bushings are worn down---you dont want to go THERE!!!I have also started using some silicone spray on the slide---helps alot....call fletcher...talk to a rep-it's not the same as having a 'spurt looking over your shoulder, but it sure beats nothing!

I've spoken to a rep at Terry Fletcher who was very ready to help.

Pardon my terminology. It is the metal block (where you tighten the mat guide to the slide) that slides in the "mat guide slide" that is binding. When moved, the block twists and rubs excessively in the chanel. I've cleaned it with lighter fluid.

It just seems that in the video John moves it without much effort (I'll check which finger) is able to move the guide with ease. I have to use two hands and lift to move the guide up or down.

Bill Ward, I think you are refering to the cutting head. No problem there. Yes, I've been playing with it, but mostly making sure that everything is calibrated.

Thx.

Mine tends to bind a little, however, not to the point where I need to pick it up to move it. It also depends on where on the guide I am pushing on it. Towards the bottom slide it moves considerably easier.

Mat cutters seem to be a matter of what you are used to. Fletcher is, by most accounts a very good and durable mat cutter. I can't cut a decent mat on one to save my life, and I've been cutting mats for 25 years! The problem for me is in the ball bearing movement in the head; it doesn't have enough drag. I have been using a Carrithers signature model with a sliding block, and it's almost as good as my 40" Keeton. I guess you're either going to have to get used to your Fletcher, or wait for the next frame show and play with every mat cutter you see in hopes of finding one that's comfortable for you. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my new fletcher 2200. I e-mailed customer service explaining the problem. By that time I had used some WD40. The very helpful customer rep sent me some new black stick -on sliders to change for the ones contaminated with the WD40. (Don't use WD40)It slides better now, but nothing like in the video. It is a very annoying and frustrating problem, but mine is loosening up as time goes by. I also had the initial problem that the edge where the mat sits would never be parallel from top to bottom and I constantly had to check for parallel. That has improved as well.
