Does anyone know any companies that sell a flat bed scanner that is as good as epson, but 16x20 in size? I have tried looking a lot of different times online and I can't seem to find any bigger than the 8 1/2 by 11 that i already have.

Ugh, that is what scares me... I guess there isn't a demand for 16x20's... Guess digital cameras makes them sort of pointless.

Ill look up the micro tek one. funny they go from 200 bucks for 8.5 x 11 to 1500 for 11x 17.... guess they know they have the market.

thanks

wow. I guess I am getting into a lot more money then I thought. Need the good version of photo shop and a scanner. I guess Ill see what my customers bring me.

I have started doing light restorations on photos. Nothing fancy, and my customers know it. Kind of fun.

I love, love, love CS5. If you are going to buy it, look into joining NAPP, you get a discount that I think is more then the cost of the membership.

Check ebay, that's where I got mine. It was $695 or $795. If was off lease and came with a 30 or 60 day warranty. No issues with it!

I have one computer with full photoshop and four computers with Elements.

You don't need the (Good$$$$$) version of photoshop to do restoration or stitching.

Go to you-tube, search the Elements tutorials and you will see it's very sophisticated.

Take the $500. savings and put it toward the bigger scanner.

Ive looked it up, and even with Jeff's help trying to merge parts of photos it doesn't have the merging part on elements. At least I didn't get it to work. it was greyed out. But yeah... for touch ups i don't need the expensive version :)

O, that is different then i found before. Ok. I will work on it from here. Thanks. See if i can make it work.

It won't merge until the images (each separate scan) have been saved. That is why it is grayed out.

I have this guy ... Epson Expression 10000XL, it's 12x17, but 3 sides are flat so it makes it easier to scan in sections. I use PhotoShop CS5 to photo merge it.

We have the same scanner and it is great. Expensive though. I had a Microtek and it was a disaster. Once we upgraded the Macs to Lion there was no software for it. PSD CS5 eliminated Twain and we had nothing to run the scanner. We gave it to an employee who thought she could run it from a PC, and we bought the Epson which does a beautiful job. Over 11 x 17 or so or 16 x 20 scanned in pieces, you will need to find someone to handle digital capture. For example, you can get it done for about $45. in Berkeley.

A large scanner might not be needed. I have quite a few customers that use smaller flat bed scanners and send the images to us in quarters for us to splice together. Another option can be to take large images to a shop that offers large format scanning like a blueprint company. More cost, yes but not $1500 out of pocket. Just an option
