I need advice on preserving a old 1925 World Series baseball signed by the team. I've have framed many baseballs before. (We are near Mark McGwire land). The cheap decoritive balls are stitched through the laces onto a rag mat board. The signed collectible balls are left inside the properly sized plexi-display box and glazed with UV glass. My customer's well-soiled 1925 ball is turning to dust. The leather is so old it is flaking off, taking the signatures with it. Is there a way to moisten the leather and stop the damage? Obviously, whatever is used must also preserve the signatures, which are fading as well. This is beyond my experience. Any advice will be appreciated.

Being a sports widdow, I went to my best adviser. He suggests contacting the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY.

Thanks for the infomation Sue. It appears the Hall of Fame can not respond to research questions by E-mail. I will be writing to them the slow way. Sports memorablia is becoming such a big business that I am starting to worry about my liablity regarding conservation framing of sports things never designed to be framed, let alone last more than a few seasons. Quick grumble; why are letters and numbers always sewn on jerseys crooked? If you pay $100.00 or more for authenic team jersey shouldn't the name be sewn on straight????
