A customer just brought in a frame package that had been dropped. The glass is broken, 2 of the corners are apart and I am not really sure if they can be rejoined without added damage.... since I farm my joining out....

The top mat of 3 has a little mold/discoloration at the corner about 1 1/2 x 2 1/2".

The customer has brought a piece of plexi to replace the glass... and it is the good stuff, like I use anyways.

So... I have a couple of options here to present... If I were to redo the entire package I am certain it would be in the $300-400 range (and I suspect that is not what the customer paid for this "chopper block" sports piece...

So... to offer levels is what I intend.

The moulding that is on it now and I cannot find is a Framerica #95209 - shiny black sloped profile... and if I could replace with exact I would offer price but can certainly find other more suitable and still cost effective moulding..

Can someone tell me the price this moulding would be (if still available and available thru my normal sources)... size approx 27 x 33 1/4 and it is a deep package with the 3 mats and f/c spacer, plus glazing.

Thanks,

Roz

Probably indicates the presence of active spores, need to replace all mats.

You allow customers to provide materials? How do you charge for this to both make a profit and cover yourself should their product get damaged?

How much of your time are you willing to spend in order for your client to save money?

Why is the cost of an unavailable moulding important? Shouldn't you be more concerned with the cost of the frame you intend to replace the broken one with?

Thanks,

Roz
Roz, The cost of repair/replacement of the original has little to do with what was originally spent. Use the analogy of assembling a car from all the parts purchased individually, or simpler, the cost of a single replacement part for just about anything vs. the original cost. Figure out what a fair and profitable price would be and tell the client. Don't lose money because someone else is expecting a bargain based on their own sense of value.

Hey Roz. I gotta go with Wally on this one. Quote a price for what you know needs to be done, new frame and all.

Almost every time I've gotten into trouble in the frame shop, it's been with an order where I let the customer talk me into doing something I knew I shouldn't do.

Okay, I do have ONE customer whom I allow to provide her own plexi and backing. Every order she places is a rush and it all goes into LJ's metal sectional frames. But darnit - I LIKE her.
