We are trying to reassemble an old metal oval.
It is not 14x20iah as most old metal ovals are.
It does not have any flexible metal (like a flexi point), but dies have some extra metal on the back that could once have been flexible metal points.
But there is no indication on the backer that there were ever any piints holding it in.
There are sone glue residues on the frame and glass. Likely from previous attempts to "fix" it.

Any thoughts?

We saw a few of those. They originally had fasteners that clipped over the narrow rim on the back. About the only thing you can do is try to bend some small strips of aluminum or brass to fit.

There were 2 other methods used for early 20th C metal stamping frames with cast ornaments. The clips of the clip version acted with a spring action to hold everything together.
  1. There might be holes in the rim of the opening that allows the use of pins to be inserted into the backing
  2. The backing boards were often covered with velvet and were held in place with friction between the backing board and the rim. A ribbon tab was used to pull the board out.
