(Hope this is the right area for this)

Has anyone changed over to fios?

We will be tomorrow. After some negotiating I think we got an ok package and some extras. It is also nice to know I can cancel up to 15 days after install.

We are switching from Directtv but will keep it mounted in the house for a few months to make sure we like the new setup.

Anyone else switch?

They completely wired our state for it over the past few years(it's a small state), and a lot of people have it. The people I know all seem happy, but one thing I hear often is that they don't always deliver at the promised promotional price. You often have to call and have them make an adjustment, so keep an eye on the statements.

It seems stable, as far as internet and telephone are concerned. This is the phone companies next generation product, to replace DSL and the copper network.

I had a neighbor that had fios, they loved the connect, but had billing problems every month, never could get it right.

No FIOS here and probably not for another half century.

Verizon being the telco though, operate just short of "Bait & Switch" campaigns. They quote a rate, you agree to the rate, the bill comes in higher than the rate quoted, the answer is that the rate quoted doesn't apply to your area (rep made a mistake by not looking at the locations to where the rate applied) and since all their rates are regulated by tariff, the only answer is that you must pay the tariff rate which has been approved by the Public Utility Commission. You can cancel any change within 30 days at no charge, except your first full month statement will be more than 30 days, so you can no longer 'undo' the changes.

We're still trying to undo the changes made the first week of May because the rate quoted doesn't apply to our area.

All that said, we are still happy with the level of service provided by Verizon and Verizon wireless.

BOB, I'd double check to make sure that the rate that you 'negotiated' is actually a rate (tariff) which is approved by your Public Utility Commission or equivalent.

We can’t get FiOS at home yet, so we are still using Comcast, so I cannot speak to FiOS TV service.

However, my experience at the store has been more than spectacular! We switched from cable to FiOS a few years ago. The speed is blindingly fast when compared to cable and the modem never (well, hardly ever) needs to be rebooted like cable did.

Verizon was prompt in running the fiber optics into the building and into the store. They gave a 30 minute window rather than a four hour time frame that the cable guys do. No installation fee. They set me up quickly, efficiently and politely with my account log in.

I have no bad things to say about this section of Verizon.

If you are mainly interested in internet access, the increase in speed will be noticeable.

have it----it 'ok' -- nothing spectacular/to write home about had not noticed ANY difference in speed, but had a tech in to fix some stuff and he noticed the slower speed than when it was in his shop(also fios)----
Ver says, of course, that all is well(and from their side it would be, wouldnt it?)

like everything else---pay your quarter and take your chance

We switched our home to FIOS about 3 months ago. I feel like we have entered the Twilight Zone where our TV's are concerned.

We have had servicemen quite a few times and my husband has placed many calls to the tec #. The TV's can turn themselves on during the night, or when we are out of town. The first few times we blamed each other, but now we know they can.

If you even look at the remote controler crosseyed, it will refuse to work and need reprograming. Sometimes the show will simply cut out while you watch and go to a blue screen.

I so miss the old days when all I had to do to watch TV was click the "on" switch. FIOS has a gazillion channels and the remotes don't always like the numbers I put in, so they come up with something else as an option. I made numerous attempts to watch channel 2 today, but the remote prefered 1076 instead. Today I cannot watch 2 of our 5 TV's until my hubby comes home and reprograms them for me.

Don't get me started on the nutso billing department. We haven't received a correct bill yet in 3 months. It will NOT be what you expect from the ads, and we have a pretty basic service package.

I HATE this system so far, but I'm leaving it in my hubby's hands to solve since it was his idea. I'm watching much less TV these days!

So far the instal has taken 7 hours and my wife said I am going to be glued to the tv for days.

There seem to be some really neat features, I can watch a movie that doesn't come on for hours.

I'm looking forward to playing when I get home.

Ok, it has only been 1 night but I like the features. And the remote is well laid out and easy to use. (I just jinxed myself)

Internet is fast (I stepped it down and saved some money) and it is even faster than the cable I have at the shop.

So far so good.

We too are in an area way behind on technology, but I did get the original rates from my phone company, regardless of what the 'supposed' regulations are for my area by insisting that the rep offering the deal send me a detailed quote by email. Once it's in writing, they are obligated to stick to it. Also, was able to get even more discounts (2 months free) for the time spent calling them. You just have to be prepared for a few lengthy discussions.

The TV's can turn themselves on

I found that this is a problem with set make/model not being in 'sync' with the controls(install tech was an idiot about many things, this only 1 of them)---I must press the TV button then OFF for this to stop
