:D Now that's COOOOOOLLLL!!!

I've just finished my first frame!! I had some help with the mitre cuts & pinning, but the rest was all my own work. (The apprehension in measurements wasn't needed, it all worked out ok...Phew!) I don't have a Digital camera so you'll have to take my word for it that it's impressive (well I love it anyhow!)
It is a sepia of the incomparable 'Eddy Merckx'. I'm sure everybody remembers their first framing experience? Don't they? I just hope my mate who it's for likes it as much as me. I'm pretty close to keeping it myself...

One other thing, I love the Grumble. It's a great community site.

Could I just thank Tim Hayes for his response here?? Yes? THANKS TIM.

Andrew.

Welcome to the grumble Andrew
Good for you it is only the first of alot of rewarding frames. No less than to have framed the infamous Eddy ( nick name the cannible? ) the winningest bike racer in the world. I am sure you did him justice. Just last week I had a rash of Sports illustrated magizines to frame. You guessed who was on the cover? SI sportsman of the year Lance Armstrong. Have framed some G. Lemond, Sean Yates, Indrain, and even a few C. Boardmans. But yet to frame Eddy congratulations. Ah to be close to where cycling is actually understood. envy

Another cyclist??

Wow! Jealous. Framing Lance & other pros...Now that's job satisfaction.
I have a friend from Ohio & Lance is her hero! When I tell her I think she'll freak.

Yeah! Eddy looks cool. I got the print from Barewalls.com. The poster is from the book "An intimate portrait of the Tour de France"
It's 673x610, so in a frame is pretty imposing. But then that was Eddy. I have this video of Roubaix & he gets out of the team car in a Blue Pastel suit. Dapper or what? He has class on & off the bike.

Lance for 5? Sure!! I'd even go 6. He has to get the record...7??

Maybe in 30 years time I'll be doing Lance in sepia too??

Keep posting & I'll reply UK cyclig news if you want it, but maybe we'd have to post on Warped?
Remember, rubber side down!

For all the experienced framers, do you remember when you thought:

hinges were for doors
lacing was for tennis shoes
rag what old t-shirts became
mats were for wiping your feet
and glazing was for cakes.....

My, we have come a long way haven't we?

Betty,
Please keep collecting that kind of serious material for a "Framing Encyclopedia ;) "
And, add mine, too: UV protection and nonreflecting glass for shower cabins on the beach.

Andrew & Gumby:

Small world. Call me a retired cyclist. I road-raced in the salad days and continued to ride 3,000-6,000 miles per year through 1994.

That's when I bought my first Harley Davidson, and I haven't pedalled since. I still enjoy the Appalachian foothills in southern Ohio & surrounding states (straight up & down for a mile or less -- nothing like the long climbs in real mountains).

But now the hills are much easier. Instead of cranking my guts out, I just twist the throttle. And Gail comes too, which makes it even more fun.

I gave away the Cannondale, the Royce Union, the Trek and most of the tools to my kids, but there's still pile of spare wheels & parts, a 1984 Ciocc (Nouvo Record) and a 1980 Colnago (Record) sitting in the basement with flat tires. They still shine, though. Maybe one day I'll get them out again.
