I have three orders using LJ388327. The finish includes a gray powder material. I noticed as a result of the cutting/ joining process, this finish has rubbed off in areas where I've handled the moulding, especially at the corners. I've been careful not to excessively rub or wipe the surface. But couldn't be helped at the corners wiping excess glue.

Does anyone have any solutions for touching up the finish?

Thanks,

Denny ...if you take a little rotten stone on a small brush and flick it onto the moulding surface and then blow away the excess it should solve your problem.

Rottenstone that matches the tonalities, perhaps? I've also successfully used ground up chalk pastels for situations like this.

blending the pastel chalks with rottenstone will do two things that are a good thing.
1) match the hues of the aging powder the OEM used.
2) adds "stickyness" to the rottenstone or pumicestone.

NOTE: I haven't been able to find the "rouge" rottenstone for a couple of years now. Rouge was a "lapping" compound at 1,500 grit and has now been replaced with a fine pumice that is rated at only 1,200 grit (in water solution) but is white; which doesn't blend well with the red or ocher bole under gold leaf. Sorry for the frankenstomp.

Thanks everyone. I'll give rottenstone a try.
Is that something I can pick up locally at an art supply or hobby store?

Look more in a woodworker's supply store. I would think the builder supply BB's have it too. I'm still using a box bought some 20 years ago.

I never carried it when I sold art and craft supplies.

Last resort, give the whole frame the same abuse (err...treatment) that the corners got.

Whenever I do that, Bill, I have to charge extra for "distressing".

:p
