I have a file in the recycle bin that will not restore or delete. It's a VOB file I copied from a DVD. When I try to empty the bin, delete the file from the bin or restore the file, a window opens to show that something is happening, but nothing ever actually happens.

Does anyone have any clues as to how to get rid of this file?

G'day Ormond,

Have you tried looking/deleting the files in C:\RECYCLER\{biglongnumber}

This is the windows location where your deleted files sit prior to emptying the recycle bin..

You may need to alter the folder options to actually see the RECYCLER Folder.

Lemmie know if you need more info !

Cheers

Thanks Mate!
I don't seem to have that folder. I always show hidden files and folders and extensions, but can find no sign of the folder you mentioned!

If your running XP, you need to go to the folder options of the C: Drive. There is an option to "Hide Protected Operating System Files" - Make sure that this is NOT checked - You should then see the Folder.

:)
Cheers

Thanks Mate.
It's Vista and I have the protected files visible already and the folder just isn't there. I guess it's still a mystery!

Are you using Norton Recycle Bin by any chance?? This may be preventing you.

Also, have you tried booting into Safe Mode and deleting it??
Not using Norton. I haven't used Norton products since about 1989!

Safe mode may be the way to go. Will give it a try soon!
Thanks!

Using Unlocker
--------------

How often have you tried to delete or rename a file or folder and got
"Cannot delete xxx: It is being used by another person or program." ?

Unlocker is a tool which will help you overcoming this scandalous Windows
bug.

Simply right click the file or folder and select Unlocker. If the file
or folder is locked then a window will appear with a list of processes
locking the file or folder. Select the locks and click Unlock and you
are done.

It is recommended to Unlock wisely and to close open processes locking
files or folder if any, but if only Explorer.exe is the culprit, do not
hesitate! :D

Thanks.
I already use Unlocker, but it doesn't operate in the Recycle Bin and this file will not restore back to it's original folder.

The mysteries of Windoze???

Tried once again to empty the recycle bin this arvo and all the files including the problem one went! Yaaaaay!!!

Perhaps I wasn't holding my mouth right before!
