Thought you might enjoy my little story. How I became a framer, Part One.

What a wonderful story, Mar. Now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for part 2. Congratulations on this great milestone in your life. I am so happy that you found the perfect outlet for your creativity and personality, as, I'm sure, are your many loyal customers. Even though we have never been in the same room together, you are one of my favorite framer friends.

I started framing in 1972, my first year of college. I won't hog your thread with the whole story, but let's say I was lucky to kind of "fall into" this industry too.

I may have shown you this before, but I also have that Kramer print. It hangs in the bathroom at my shop. Here's how I have it framed.

(The frame pattern on the wallpaper is from a rubber stamp I carved.)

Hurry and post Episode 2 of your story. I feel like I'm streaming a show and my connection is down.:popc:

So Bragg must have done three versions of Kramer the Framer. The one I have, the one you posted, and the one showing the store window.

It will be a while before I get around to the rest of my story. Very busy at the shop right now and also in real life.

And this is the first time I have publicly "outed" the real name of the man I have been calling Kramer the Framer all these years on this forum. I figured I could because he is long departed.

Great story, Mar!
I'm at 50 years myself but I started at 17 in 1969.

I'm glad that you're busy.
Can't wait for Part Two....:popc:

While you are awaiting Part Two, here is a little story I wrote a while back about one crazy night in the second place I worked.

Congratulations Mar, that's a quite a milestone. So I have to ask: If you hadn't become a framer, what do you think you would have done for an occupation?

Hmmm. What would I have done if not for framing? I probably would have tried earning a living slogging in the art mines - making stuff and selling it (or at least trying to sell it) at art and craft shows on the weekends. I really do not know. I dropped out of college after 3 semesters so I could marry my first wasband, but I had already decided I did not want to be an art teacher because I did not like kids.

Interesting question, Paul.

I always thought you had worked for the "real Kramer the Framer", and that Bragg had been inspired to do the print after meeting him.

Just got a photo of my real Kramer the Framer - back in the early seventies! Jason S. Natowitz.jpg
The newspaper did a story about his business, so he had to look like he was doing something in the photo.
