Has anyone had any experience with web hosting company 'Feature Price'?
http://www.featureprice.com/

They offer generous web hosting features at reasonable prices and I would like to find out if they provide good service.

Hi osgood,

Yes, I have used Feature Price. Their support is really good. Their hosting went down, sporadically, for one day in about 9 months of excellent service. Their cost, in comparison to other hosting services, is great -- plus they offer PHP/MySQL/etc within their packages, and usually you have to pay extra for that. So from what I've experienced with them, in terms of support, features, reliability and cost, I would recommend them.

Webgirl,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not too concerned with a day or two down occassionally as I am quite sure that I am not going to be flooded with business enquiries from a website anyway. Past experience is my guide.

I hope some other people might also have had some experience or know someone who has, and posts some comments.

Its a bit amusing that the first comment comes from someone in Melbourne. I was expecting comments from people on the same side of the globe as "Feature Price".

Osmond,

When I was searching for an ISP, I had Feature Price in my final four. For reasons that I can no longer recall exactly (it probably had to do with the "Control Panel" on the site), I went with http://www.oneononeinternet.com/. In eight months, so far, it has not been down at all that I know of.

In case anyone still checks this thread, I'd like to give a new opinion of FeaturePrice.

Since I last posted about them (November 2002), they revamped their customer support, their user agreement policy, and the control panel system that you use to manage your websites.

Their customer support now seems to be outsourced to India. Responses are in pigeon English with numerous grammatical errors and spelling errors. Responses often don't answer the question, but instead give a seemingly random answer to some other question. It's like an ongoing skit from Monty Python.

Their updated user agreement policy means that it's nearly impossible to cancel your account with them, and it's even harder to wrench back any domains that they registered for you.

FeaturePrice is like a different company now. We were so happy with it, but after 3 months of appalling service, we are changing web hosts.

G'day Webgirl ...

I've noticed your sites have been down more than up lately (the last month or so). Not good and I guess there's little redress.

It's terrible... one of our domains was registered by them as part of a package deal, and now they are not responding to any requests for us to re-claim that domain.

Apparently the Florida Attorney General is currently investigating their business, with over 2500 filed & formal complaints already.

If you put "FeaturePrice sucks" into Google, you can see that hundreds of people have been treated poorly, just like us :(

Wow they sound more like Fisher Price. Get outta there before they pull the plug.

Is your name on the domain also as one of the contacts? If so, you can switch it to point to a new ISP yourself, via email. You can verify this at http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois or www.register.com. Your new ISP can do this on your behalf, and the email request will come through to you.

I currently have 5 domains hosted through Hostway, and couldn't be happier. Our previous ISP was destroyed in the WTC disaster(everyone got out OK) and Hostway had us switched and back online within 12 hours. We're paying 8.95/mo for our small sites, and 13.95/mo for the larger ones(more disk space). They do the domain xfer for you, and it comes with email(w/forwarders, autoresponders, aliases), ftp, shell, cgi, perl, tcl, flash, frontpage extensions, stats, mailing list, and scripts for live chat, formmail, guestbook, message board.

They claim they were rated #1 isp for 2002 and it hasn't been down even a minute since 9/12/01 when we signed up.

For more info, check em out here HOSTWAY HOSTING INFO PAGE

There are a lot of options out there, some as low as $5/month, but I question how they're able to pay their bills at such a low rate.

Feature Price does indeed suck... I had to move one of my artists to a new server and it was a train wreck.

After much discussion I found out the domian control is actually in the online help desk -- if you log-in to the help desk you can change your domain settings yourself... I moved her over to hypermart which I've had good luck with for many of the sites I manage.

Jason.

Yeah... we've moved to Hummingbird Hosting which is a breath of fresh air! Replies to support queries come through in 15 minutes, unlike FeaturePrice, who take a minimum of 4 hours (but usually much more... and when they do reply, it's never the answer for the question you actually asked).

For the past week we've been submitting support queries, telling their so-called tech support that our domain simply isn't listed in the Domain Manager, but so far they have either...

a) told us that they've fixed it and it's there now (but it isn't)
b) told us that we need to update the nameserver by going into the Domain Manager (duh, that's what we're trying to do, and it isn't listed there)
c) closed our support query without even replying to it.

It's a merry-go-round.
