Santa left me an iPad2 for Christmas ;)

Any favorite apps? So far I like the magazine feature a lot. I don't usually like reading magazines online, but this is a whole new experience. Some publications just put their pages online, but efforts like Oprah's O Magazine are amazing!

I have a tablet but one of the Android persuasion. That aside, most popular apps for tablets are similar.

If you read a lot, get the Kindle or Nook app. I have a Kindle but do almost all of my reading on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Kindle App.

I also do a lot of browsing.

Given the nice size, it's easy to keep it on your end table or night stand. See something on TV you want to look up........? It's real easy just to grab the tablet and browse away rather than getting up and going to the computer.

An of course, there is always Angry Birds.

I'm the same set up as Larry, kindle and a Galaxy, the kindle app for the Galaxy makes for very nice reading.

I have an app from my bank which is not bad.

I also have an app called pen memo which I have started to use today, very nice and it looks like it will be very usefull.

Kristie. Leave the androids from your mind and yes, let's choose some nice apps.
#1:
For just $0.79 you can play a large game of TinTin. Very nice graphics.

Perhaps you better first note what direction you think by yourself. Productivity or photography or games. I saw a very nice app for changing peoples hair-color. But I also saw nice apps for tracking flights and traffic.

Peter, I was playing nice and giving Kristy some device independent app advice. This thread isn't a place for device politics and I was helping, not apple bashing. She wanted some help not device politics. Lets leave that for other threads, OK?

We have an iPad 2 that we got "free" with the Canon ipf8300 we bought in October. Sherry & I fight over who gets to use it all the time; it's safe to say that we both love it.

I can't speak for her, but I will speak for myself. For games, the main one for me is Scrabble, which I also play a lot in Facebook. The integration with Scrabble on Facebook makes the iPad version very convenient.

For productivity, I use Logmein Ignition a lot to connect to the computers at the gallery. I also use Dropbox on it quite a bit for file sharing.

For both productivity and recreation, I use Kindle, not because of any preference over Apple's alternative, but because I already use Kindle on the PC and on my Android phone. Also, the books tend to be cheaper for whatever reason. Anyway, I read about an hour or two a day on the thing.

We do have other apps on the iPad but nothing that I use frequently enough to mention.

Personally I also like to play "Wordfeud". You play with your far-away family-members or with complete strangers. The game is about the same as scrabble.

You know that if you have the Kindle App installed on your iPad you can also read your books on it. And you can switch back and forth between the iPad and Kindle and pick up right where you left off.

I use this all the time. I read mostly using the Kindle App on my tablet but if I'm going someplace where I don't want to carry the tablet, my Kindle fits in my jacket pocket. Also if I'm going to be using it all day or outside.

If I'm going to a restaurant, I take the tablet because I don't know I will have a table with enough light. Yesterday I had a day of medicine at the VA and I took the Kindle because it fits in my jacket pocket easily and in the summer it fits in my cargo shorts pocket easily.

I also like using the tablet for reading in bed because I don't have to turn up the lights; plus I can browse if I wish. I have a cover that folds open into a stand that sits very nicely on my belly.

You can use both your Kindle and iPad. just make sure that the device syncs to the cloud when you finish one device so the other device can sync up when you use it.

You can get an app for this less talk more music station out of Dublin, Ireland, hopefully it is not country specific. http://sunshineradio.ie/

Link for the app's http://sunshineradio.ie/listen/live

It is easy listning and country music. I have been a fan of this station since it started as a community radio station back well over 30 years ago.

For years I could only get it when I was I the Dublin area, now that the station is online I can get it at home.

Enjoy.....

Larry I also love being able to read in bed on my pad with the light turned off, it is a very relaxing way to read, it is one of the big advantages of using a pad to read.

If you like to play pinochle there is a good pinochle game thats got pretty good computer AI (but sometime you wonder why they pass you some of the stuff they do)

A few of my favorites. I don't remember which were free and which I've paid for.

I use Evernote to syncro all sorts of files between my desktop, my Android phone and my iPad.

I watch moves and TV series on Netflix (only works if you have a Netflix streaming subscription.)

Pandora radio allows you to set up custom play lists for streaming radio.

What's On TV HD is what I use to check television listings. Remember when everyone used to buy TV Guide?

The Weather Channel has a nice weather app.

I made add more later when I actually have my iPad in front of me.

Isaac Newton's Gravity HD. Get this ball to hit that button using only these props. Great for the problem solving mind of a framer. The only "game" app I like. There should be a free demo to try.

Also highly recommend Flipboard to view your facebook, twitter and other interests like a magazine.

The most used app on my iPad is UPAD. It's the most versitle app for note taking. In the beginning I tried all of them. This one has the most features. I can make hand written notes or typed notes. I also have my 222 page moulding catalog in PDF that I can mark up the pages with.

Zinio is one of the best apps for magazines. They have several feature mags you can read articles from with out a subscription. After I registered with them, they emailed me a $25 credit. I was able to get a years subscription to 3 monthly magazines that I had been wanting to get subscriptions to anyway.

I am not in to games, so my entertainment is "Zen Brush" a beautiful app for Sumi-e

Flipboard is a good app for news as it draws from numerous sources.

Me too!

Kirstie,

I, too, received an iPad for Christmas! I have yet to add any apps. However, I have enjoyed being able to iMessage my sister and hope to use Facetime on it soon.

I'm wondering if anyone has used it to record external sounds? Not with video. I would like to record some a cappella singing.

You probably already know that you can get Kindle and Nook applications for iPad, so you aren't limited to the selection that iBooks has.

For productivity apps, I like Numbers (spreadsheet) and Pages (word processing). Both are a bit different than Appleworks so it takes a bit of getting used to. PDFReader Pro is very useful, I find. If you will need to print documents from your iPad, Print Bureau is one of the best that EuroSmart makes.

Games? Angry Birds is a "must have", IMO - all three varieties. I'm not a big fan of first person shooters or action games. I do like Crimson Pirates, nautical strategy game. I just got it so I don't know too much about it, but Zombie Farm is a tongue-in-cheek rip off of the old Sims game. Instead of killing zombies, you grow them in a garden.

WiFi Finder is useful if you take your iPad on the road (it's free, I think).

StickyNotes for iPad is a pretty good iteration of the OS X Stickies application if you like to post reminders to yourself.

I have an iPad and some are my favorites are as follows. Just keep in mind that some of them are school related but can be applied for business or just plain fun.

Facebook, the app is really nice compared to the mobile site for tablets.

Good reader, wonderful note taking app. Only catch is the file must be a PDF to be annotated. But you can view most document files without any add ons.

Quick office, I am no longer limited to office on my pc.

Medscape and Micromedex are great resources for drug info and interactions.

Puffin browser, for those few websites that still use flash.

Xfinity, for video on demand and setting the DVR.

HBO Go, also for VOD.

As for games, well I only have a couple but they're fun.
Plants versus zombies is entertaining and is a good game for a ten minute break.
Stupid zombies is a fun game to play when you want to just have fun.
Amazing breaker is also kind of neat.

Sugar sync, is compatible with all platforms I use. IOS, android, and windows. And I plan on using it to sync info across all of my devices. Bt I haven't set it up yet. So I can't give you a positive review.

Pandora, is really wonderful with the long battery life of the iPad.

Hope this helps and enjoy your new tablet. Lord knows my wife wants one.
