Can this be done neatly? Im thinking adhere fabric to the face of mat then several slices in the fabric then pull back each one. Anyone ever done this?

Dawn I am sure you will get a very good reply soon.

Dawn I am sure Baer is just chompping at the bit in anticipation and utter amazement. But in the mean time have you seen this thread ,Perfect: Game, Frame & PITA, In the frame design section here in TFG?

I'll bet there are more discussions on the topic in the archives as well since doing what you ask is rather common from what I know. Doing it well is another matter.LOL

Hi Buddy,
Yes I did see that but I completely forgot that there was a round cut in that one. Unfortunatly Im not sure the ol' "if he can do it I can do it" applies in this situation...it being Baer and all ya know.

Yes Dawn it can be done quite easily. Cut your tabs about 3/4" wide and wrap as normal. The result is quite impressive and amazing. Only don't do what I had to do and use an upholstry fabric. Came out OK but what a stuggle to get it to adhere. Customer wanted a particular look for the fox hunting art. Use an 8 ply mat and you get a great look.

Use a really sharp blade, and make your tab cuts ALMOST all the way to the bevel, but not quite. That way, when you pull the fabric around and adhere it to the back, you will not get gapping at the tab joins. You can use Frank's fabric adhesive or acrylic gel as an adhesive. If the fabric is not too thick, you can let it dry and reactivate it using heat. No mess.

You can always come to Deb's Framing at 9:30 Sept 9th for a light breakfast before we jump into all of this stuff.

eagle55, on a 2"x3" oval, those 3/4" tabs might get you in trouble.... and on a 16x30 opening... they are a little undersized. Consider being as flexible as cloth.

Rick.. sharp blades are nice.... but a pair of Dahle or Giinger scissors work a heck of a lot faster and make you more money.

Dawn? what size circle? And what is the fabric

Baer circles are about 4 inches. Fabric is cotton. I've been playing with it a bit this afternoon...so far so good.
