Here is a fabric wrap I just finished. 36x48 is the finished size.
The fabric is linen from Framing fabrics and hand wrapped onto a c81610. I always like to give my fabric wraps a finished edge using some sort of hand finished bevel. In this case it is a wrapped and hand faux-painted deep bevel using 3/16th a/f foamboard. Hand painted to replicate the frame that is being used on the finished piece.

Enjoy.

Nice work.

I'm confused about the design.

You have crisp joints and edges on both the frame and the bevel board; but get fuzzy and just "rolled" the bevel and corner of the wrap? Or is it just a bad focus and I'm unable to see a nice crisp bevel and corner?

I really like the painted bevel. Did you leaf the pattern or is that paint? I'm liking these decorative custom edge treatments the more I see them.

you nailed it there Baer ... it's out of focus .. the bevel and corners are quite sharp ;)

The pattern is paint ... dabbed on with crumpled tissue paper.

Take better pictures next time. You almost had my blood pressure tick up another notch and demand you take my class...... :D

Tissue paper.... I never would have thought about that. Very cool...... are you watching Luddite?? She'll be along eventually.

Yuh Huh....Tissue paper also makes a great faux leather.Just tear random bits and "decopauge down with glue, then dab on,and wipe off acrylic paint! This also works on walls(use brown craft instead of tissue)and furniture,and.........L.

I may just take your class anyway ....

... to make sure you are doing it right... ;)

Nice work, Shane. I like to make my own bevel accents too. I've used everything from marbled papers, to faux painting, to giftwrap papers, to a piano keyboard pattern I printed out on the laser printer. These look great under a colored-bevel mat.
 Rick

Oh, this could be dangerous.... with the two of us, the rest of the class could get hurt as they keep falling to the floor as their sides split open from laughter.

On second thought, so why can't the teacher be entertained also?? :D

You were talking about taking my photography class, right?

If you don't mind my asking - what material did you use to wrap the foam core bevel? Paper? You painted it first then attached?

-Bryan

I wanted to elaborate on this.

First I finish my hand wrapped fabric mat then I lay it over top the secondary layer, in this case 3/16 a/f foamboard and trace the shape onto the foamcore careful not to get lead on the fabric... I wrap the pencil tip with tape so just the end pokes out. Also remember to register the two pieces. I generally make an x on the same corner .. that's usually enough.

After the line is traced I cut the bevel on my hand cutter not a cmc..

After the bevel is cut I wrap it with 1" white artists tape. Then I run strips of 696 atg just behind the tape and around the outer edge. Do not remove the backing of the tape.

After the taping I move to the spray booth and spray the bevel with a primer.. When I want a black or gold finish I use a rust colored primer to emulate a red undercoat. This gives the rich finish I want.

After the undercoat is dry I do the faux finish.

Once dry remove the backing on the strips of ATG and apply the fabric mat...there ya go!!;)
