I have attempted several different ways to get to the FACTS website (including going through Mike Labbe's website links :D).

My "favorites" link, doesn't work; a google search opened a private framers website that talked about FACTS; and Mike's link wanted to open artfacts....

is the FACTS site still available? I hope so!!!!

If you need one of the standards, it might be among those I have downloaded over the years. You're aware that the most recent standard was written more than a decade ago, right?

FACTS was purchased by the Fine Art Trade Guild in the UK a year or two ago. I was unable to access the 'official' FACTS site almost two months ago, so apparently they have taken it down.

Maybe FATG has combined the FACTS content with their site. In any case, you can probably learn more about what is going on if you inquire to FATG.

Rumor has it that F.A.C.T.S. has been taken over by Fine Art Trade Guild in the U. K.

I just looked at their web site, but they don’t appear to have a link to it, yet.

They probably need to revise it for the common practices in Europe and change all words like color to colour. :)

Not a rumour, it's a fact.

If Jim doesn't have what you need I might. I have 11 documents.

It looks like it it expired on January 13, 2011 and was taken back by the registrar (network solutions). It is in a temporary holding period now, awaiting renewal or deletion (or even auction).

You can see a snapshot of what it looked like as of June 19, 2009, at this link:

Although this isn't the real page, the clickable links work and you can still view the standards etc.

Best regards,
Mike

Thank you , Mike!

I just downloaded the standards, so now I have the full set. While much of the information will always be useful, the standards have evolved in some areas. In any case, the FACTS standards are important as "recorded history" for the framing industry.

Thanks for the updates. For the classes I teach, I want the framing students to have a site to go to with reliable information. So, when the site was "not available" I lost a resource for the students.

Mike, thanks for the "backup link". That is really helpful tot have.

thanks everyone

I don't know why anyone would want to use FACTS today as a be all and end all for guidelines to what is considered archival and proper. They have been a none issue for years. There are so many new archival ways to mount fabric, objects, stretch needlework, and encapsulate that wasn't available when they were the go to place, it would be a bit like going back to the old encyclopedia to gather information instead of using the computer .

I can't tell you how often I have been asked if my methods have been approved. My answer is always the same....."approved by who?"

Of course there are some old methods that will always remain tried and true, but until the industry catches up to the times, the fact is, there are few FACTS that are not outdated or obsolete in today's market....and that is a fact.
