Below is a photo of how i extended the like span of my Wizard 8500e Blade Holder. I just KNEW there was a way and i figured out how. It only took 5 minutes to do so.

1. Simply leave the blade in and drill two 1/16" holes through the blade holder.

2. Using a #14 finish nail, snip off the point of the nail.

3. Flatten the snipped end of the nail with a file.

4. Snip 1/8" of the end of what you just filed. (You will need two of these.)

5. Drive the filed flat surface of the nail into the 1/16" holes flush with the blade you left in.

It only took 5 minutes to do this. I tried it and it is just as good or even better than a new blade holder because there is absolutely NO play what-so-ever when the blade put in place in the holder.

(I know the NEW blade holders are not expensive at all and i ordered 10 of them a couple of days ago. I just had this idea an hour ago and just wanted to see if it worked, which it did!)

So wizard could redesign them that way or embed a thin metal sleeve in the blade channel?

Busy converting 10 Blade holders huh ?
;)

OzFramer  :
I "repaired" only one.
You asked "Busy converting 10 blade holders?" If it ain't worn out... i won't fix it. The ONE i "repaired" will outlast the 10 new ones i have coming in.

Why are yours wearing out faster than ours?

Each blade holder seems to last us about 2 years, with our 8000. Is it an 8500? If so, maybe that puts more stress on it because of the increased speed?

We're going through gantrys faster than blade holders (on #3 now)

Mike, the blade i put the "pins" in was the FIRST blade holder i used which came with my new CMC 8500e. I have been having the CMC for very close to ONE year. It being the first one used, it was probably worn out faster because of the BOOBOOS i was making now and then while getting use to it, such as putting in the blade the wrong way, not setting the cutter head when the window popped up saying to set it, etc. Also, a tip in getting the blade holder to last longer i was told was to put the blade in place without sliding it in place. I still have good confidence in Wizard and never once regretted in purchasing it. :icon19:

I'm sorry; I misread. I thought you said that you were on your 10th one in less than a year. Looking back, I see now that you ordered 10 spares.

I ordered 5 today, too, because of this thread. We may as well see if there is any difference in quality with a new blade holder. They were $4 each.

If you cut 8 ply mats they go bad faster.
