This is my first post, and I must say, I LOVE some of the smilies you guys have!!!! :bdh: (Doesn't mean anything, just wanted to use it !)

I am a photographer and a client is interested in thirty-two individually engraved frames (or frames/plaques with engraved plates) for use as awards. After an internet search, I found Promo Products Direct. I called them with a few questions, and they were very nice and helpful. They have a couple of nice metal frames, which they will engrave, that would work. Does anyone have any experience with this company??? Good, bad, or ugly???

Also found Framing Achievement, Inc. which has a photo plaque that may work.

Any other suggestions????

Thank you very much!!!

My local trophy shop (4 doors away) engraves Nielsen metals for me all the time. The best selling ones are the ones that look like bronze, wrought iron, copper, etc. I'm home now and don't have the numbers of the frames I'm referring to.

Janet--
when engraving into a metal frame: do you attempt to "dull down" where the engraving will have left the 'really shinny'(something like 'gun bluing)??? How WIDE do you get with the engraving-for readability-(not the whole letters but the lines of the letters--assumes there are choices in that reguard)? do you have any problems with 'sharp' edges where the material may not have been quite removed(like in a corner of a char)? Some of those metals are covered with a "platsic" (it chips and will 'melt' at the edge if saw blade is too dull)..any problem with the engraving there(would think char size would affect this)??

Bill, the guy that does my engraving, hasn't run into any problems (as of yet...hope you're not jinxing him). Say the surface is 2 inches wide on a metal frame leg, he's been able to engrave 1 1/2 inch tall letters on a leg. We don't blacken the letters, the natural color that shows through looks super.

I'll ask him this morning if he has to do anything special to the leg prior to engraving. But I think his answer will be no, as the finish doesn't look any different behind the letters.

Thank you for the replies!!!

A VersaLASER does a beautiful job on Framerica Bonanza Wood.

I also carry Walnut and Red Alder frames for engraving.

Check with your local trophy shop and ask them if they carry the JDS frames for laser engraving.

And welcome to The G!

Thank you for the info and the welcome! I'm glad to be at "The G." (Want to type joke, but already have reputation at another forum....I should wait at least a few days before starting here .)

Thanks!!! This morning, I contacted a local awards/trophy store, waiting for their replay.

Besides so suggestions, Gemini moulding also does engraving for you and you can order your frame chopped from them as well.

I submitted form for an account this morning, thank you!!

Thanks again to everyone!!

Ok Bill...talked w/Rob (engraver). He is not able to use his new laser engraver for the metal frames. Instead he uses a rotary engraver. He said the laser one WOULD change the color.

Also, in regard to how long the engraving can be, I recently framed a panoramic poster from Australia showing the opera house at sunset. Rob engraved about a 12 inch long phrase (one line) on the metal frame. I do recall his saying he would have to remove a "fence" from the engraving machine in order to center the line on the 36" long bottom leg of the frame.

Hope this helps.
