Is there anyone that knows a "simple" way of making English passe-partouts?I am talking about a (black)matt painted on glass with guilded lining.
Any comments highly appreciated.
regards,
Peter

Here in the states, we call them a "glass mat".

I have done only a few in the past 20 years. They are simple to do.
1. mask the opening where the art will show
through with tape and a sheet of paper if it
is a large opening.
2. mask the line where it is to be gilded.
Cut the tape with a new razor blade (Exacto
knife)
3. spray paint the mat with several thin
coats of paint.
4. gild the line around the opening. Note:
clean the glass very well prior to gilding.
5. clean up the mat and install.

The only type of paint that I used was "Enamel". Enamel is the basic spray paint in hardware stores. It has a very fine grain pigment for a smooth finished surface.

Remember to clean the glass "extra clean" for good adhesion.

thanks again,I am gonna try it out.
btw,I was curious about your website but I can't seem to open it.Is it my computer?
