Ohayoo mina!

I thought I would show off a couple of my "big" shadowbox projects. As luck would have it, they're both part of the Evil Empire.

Hey, I'm a New Englander. If you're not a Red Sox fan, we jack up your quote ten percent. (Not really, but we do tell that to anyone who brings in Yankee memorbilia. Luckily, there's only two of them who come in here, and they're regulars, so they're used to our Yankee-hating.

The first one we completed was the mitt signed by Mickey Mantle. This one was brought into our shop in August and, once we got all the materials in/hunted down (the baseball was just a normal one to fill out the glove, purchased at a local sporting goods store) it probably took us about six hours to put the items together. The pinstriping was ribbon hand-sewn on Moorman White; I didn't like the way ink or pencil or paint sat on the mat. The top mats are also Moorman, cut on the Wizard using the Leaf cut. I used PVC-free zip strips to attach the glove to the back (and the ball to the glove) thus it can be easily removed with no damage if needed.

(I apologise for the slight blurriness -- we were still getting used to the shop camera.)

The second piece, which was totally unrelated, was the Mickey Mantle bat and ball. This one required a little milling help from our buddies at a local lumber company to make natural-looking holders for the bats, screwed through the back of fabric-mounted Gatorboard. The Yankees emblem was designed using PathTrace and cut out as a double drop -- white on top, blue on bottom. The ball is in a PVC-free trophy case acquired from another local shop (noticing a trend with us?) that specialises in trophies and plaques, again screwed in from the back. Both pieces are easilty removable with no damage.

Both jobs required all three sizes of the Boxer stacked frames from Framerica.

Enjoy! ^_^

Boys! Boys! Let's keep this friendly.

Here's a similar job I did using United's acrylic ball holder for some memorabilia from the game when they retired the number of Dave Concepcion from the very non-controversial Cincinnati Reds.
 Rick

Rick, is that a "farm team"? Never heard of them, but a very (personally) cool logo. I've taken a lot of "Redeye" flights in my day. :D

Baer, I'm learning quite fast you're the punmeister.

Rick, I'm curious to know how deep that frame is. Either you're using musuem glass or you got the angle just right not to get any reflection, and it's messing with my depth perspective. Also, is the Red Eye cut out of the mats or is it a logo sticker/patch? I'm inquisitive, you see. ^_^

And to those who are going to the NEPPFA meet in June, don't make me sing "Tessie," because I will. Oh, goodness, I will.
