Today I was helping an elderly butcher who owns the grocery store down the street. He brought in the most current TV Guide - the ones with Elvis in moving 3-D on the cover, commemorating the anniversary of Elvis' death. While I was helping him, 2 other fellows came in looking for "that really thin, cheap plastic that you can put on pictures. We just bought a beautiful picture at a garage sale and it had this plastic on it, and we want to put it on all of our pictures now". The youngest one, about 45, scraggly, missing teeth, smelling of tobacco, booze, and sweat, spied the covers on the table and made a beeline over to look at them.
"Did Elvis sign these for you?" he asked the butcher.
"Well, yes he did" replied the butcher. Without missing a beat he added "He came in to the butcher shop today to pick up some special cut steaks he ordered for a barbeque he is having tonight. Nice fellow."
"You know, I've heard that about him" the other man replied. "It's nice to know that someone as famous as Elvis is still just plain good people."
Amen, over and out!
