I am considering buying a mutimedia cutter to cut glass and plexiglass. I have read that some model require an incredible amount of thumb pressure to cut plexiglass. Is the C and H or the Fletcher Terry easier to use? Are the newer models easier to use than the older ones?

I really don't know where you heard that a multi media cutter requires a lot of thumb pressure. I have the Fletcher 3100, have had the 3000, and the 84XX and have never had to use a lot of thumb pressure. All the thumb pressure is for is to pull the cutting head back so that you can raise it for the cut. I also use the second lever to snap my glass and to finish the break on plexi but again that doesn't take a lot of thumb pressure.

Just my $0.02

I bought the Fletcher Terry model 3000, I like that all the cutters are on a turret that you simply turn. In retrospect, I should have gotten the 3100 because it cuts thicker boards and I cut a lot of 1/2 foamboard.

I've got the 3000 and agree not much thumb pressure required. Really I use my thumb, to take some of the pressure off of the plexi blade when making the first few scores and then progessivly release my thumb from the hold down. Only takes 3 or 4 scores and then you snap it, but again hardly any pressure, it is just a feel for it, that you aquire.

Those that use a lot of thumb pressure are just trying to muscle through the job. Plex is cut by scoring the acrylic and then snapping it. 3 or 4 scores and it snaps cleanly. The cutting head is spring loaded so there is no additional pressure needed unless you are using a dull cutter.

It seems that everyone ignored the core of my question. My question ( which was not answered ) was "Is there a significant difference between the Terry Fletcher multicutter and the C and ?" I assumed that the Terry Fletcher had a spring device which made it easy to use. My question was, "Is the C and H comparable to this?" Everyone skirted around this and told me only about the performance of the Terry Fletcher not the C and H.

The spring tension is on both pieces of equipment. Please give us some model numbers so we can be of help.
