Should we start advertising early this season since it's been so slow the last few months? What kind of specials and ads work best in the season?
I know I want to start early since customers are looking for gifts and it gives them more time to get the stuff together to bring in. Or at least it gets them to think to start the projects. I've already have had customers bring in xmas presents for framing cause they know once the barrage of "sales" start they will be stretched thin on the dime. I know it's not even back to school in some places but we all need to plan now. I'm working on some banners and changing my Aboard and just maiking small affordable frames, not more than $20 completely finished with art. I don't carry small item gifts other than frames and art. In one of the treads I read about a "red" sale for Valentines Day. How about an "orange" sale for October and November and a "red and green sale" for December? Should the website include these sales now? Just a few thoughts during my slow time.

I don't know about you, but when I see Christmas ads before Halloween, I purposely try NOT to support that establishment.

I'm already sick of the season my mid Dec when the ads start Nov 1.

and not because it is related to the business.

Personally
i hate the commercialization of Christmas.
As a business owner...the season will begin in October.

We usually see a spike in business prior to Thanksgiving, which I mostly attribute to folks wanting to put some finishing touches on their interiors prior to that four-day weekend that usually involves lots of company.

Maybe gear your early efforts towards that rather than Christmas.

In October I place a small matted sign in my front window letting customers know how mant weeks until Christmas and reminding them it's time to start planning thier framed gift ideas. Every week I change the number of weeks left. When we get down to the wire the sign changes to my cut off date. I've been doing that for the whole 6 years I've been in business and I've had customers tell me they appreciate the "nudge".
