You never know how much dust you have in the shop until you frame something with a black suede mat with museum glass.

You could be in a NASA vacuum room and still, a speck would be found.

Does anyone charge more for selling black top mats? Just curious.

Yep.
And I'll bet you use that design again in less than a year.
Reminds me of a story my dad told me. Seems there was this guy who would hit himself in the head with a hammer. When asked why, he responded "Because it feels so good when I quit".

We generate a lot of dust in this business. Paper and fabric both produce dust when cut, and heaven help you if your saw is in the same buliding as your fitting table. I don't care how good a dust collection system you have.
Jim Miller's advice on working with clear film first thing in the morning before any dust has been stirred up would probably apply in this instance.

Remember all that hoo ha they went through to reframe the Declaration of Independence or was it the Constitution? The whole shebang was filled with some kind of gas to preserve it and then soldered closed and they found a speck inside and had to drill a hole and go through massive contortions to remove it and reseal it.

I never laughed so hard.

I should definately charge extra, because of all the extra time it takes. I think I'm going to change the price of all the black suede mats in my pos right now.

I dont even sell a black suede mat.... just for that reason..... :kaffeetrinker_2:

That's right up there with the original custom precision-ground mirror on the Hubble Telescope being the wrong "prescription", and having to be corrected on a "house call" mission.

What if dust is microscopic tribbles?
