Stupid question coming up. I just had a guy in that had apparently talked with the owner here about double sided dry mounting. I've never heard of double sided dry mounting much less done it before. Can anyone fill me in on the best way to handle this?

Thanks!

Julie

Julie ...there are no stupid questions.

Just dry mount as always. One side first and then the second side. Weight in between. Should be no problem.

Can't foresee any issues here if you are using tissue and weighting in between and keeping all surfaces clean.

If customer is concerned about warping use Gatorboard.

Are the two pieces the same size? I always mount the larger of the two, trim to size and then mount the second. This way if they are not the same size you can center or position the second piece easier. I also turn down the pressure, temp and dwell time.

Both pieces are or will be the same size after trimming. I don't think the customer is worried about warping, should I be? The prints are 46.75 x 12.

Thanks for the advice!

Julie

No worry if framing, but most any other substrate than Gatorboard would more than likely warp. May some with Gatorboard too being that long and narrow. Since you are mounting on both sides this is effectively countermounting and should help minimize it.

The only thing no one asked is are you using a mechanical press or a vacuum press?

If you are using a vacuum press, the back edge of whatever you are mounting will "roll" slightly due to the flexible bladder. You can overcome this with "buildup" strips of the same type of mount board surrounding the art. The bladder will roll the buildup and your mount board will retain 90 degree corners.

We double side mount display posters for Aveda all the time and add grommets at the top so they can hang from the ceilings of their salons.
