Had a customer come in and he wants us to dry mount some pictures to wood so he can then cut around the picture. He has tried other forms of mounting but says when he goes to cut around the picture the edges come up. I ran a search and couldn't find anything on this subject so here are my questions:

1. Can we dry mount on wood?
2. What do we use?
3. Will this solve his problem?

Thanks!

Kim

What has he been using to trim previous drymounts? What does he plan on using to trim wood mounts? A table saw?

Colorplak dry mounts and laminates to MDF all the time. They then use a combination edge trimmer/bander to apply the colored edge finish. Done the right way I imagine the same result could be achieved with wood, but if it were my customer I would sell him Colorplak!

Or better yet frame it for him!

It sounds like your customer wants to decoupage the pictures to make plaques. As long as your press can accommodate the thickness of the wood, you can do it. Use a Fusion 400 type film, at normal temps and adjust your dwell time.

The secret to being able to cut around the print without the edges coming up is to seal the print after mounting with a gel medium such as Liquitx gel medium or Z gel or you could laminate the print. Be sure to let the gel dry throughly and the cut around the print and then seal again. Hope this help.
