We are doing a reframe on a corporate piece that fell from the wall. We have repaired the frame, and received the new print. The original piece was dry mounted, a 30 x 50 photo on a 40 x 60 board. The photo retails for $1200.
Does it really need to be dry mounted? The client has no opinion on it, leaving it to our professional judgement. I am understandable nervous about mounting such a piece.
It seems to be quite an expensive piece to stick down. However, that is what the client had previously, and hinged, it won't be as flat.
If it is hinged, would it best to support it with more than just top hinges? Would one put mylar edge supports on the bottom?
If those in the know think it should be mounted, I think an outsource is in order. My 20 x 24 heat press would be just too dangerous, I think.
Opinions??
Many thanks.....Luann

Cold laminate it onto Kapafix, Gatorboard or something similar. If you don't have a roller press sub the mounting out to someone experienced who does.

This process is much safer than anything using heat and probably longer lasting.

to drymount or not to drymount

If I were in the same position as you, I would drymount it to gatorboard. Then again I have a Heated Glass-Top 40x60 Vacuum press that I have had perfect results with.
I would be afraid if I did not drymount it the customer would call back to complain that it is not flat.
Is it the perfect answer?? I guess it depends on who you ask. I am sure everyone will have an opinion.

Good Luck:smiley:

Thank you...opinions are all I'm asking for..

Cold mount with a roller press.

BTW, what kind of photo is it? Inkjet, Fuji, Metallic?
