I have a wireless door chime that senses movement at our front door and it "chimes" in our shop area So we know when someone walks in.

Well ours is on the fritz (sp). We have replaced the battery (several times) and it chimes when no one is there and doesn't chime when someone is. It's not consistent

Long story short. I bought this about 7 years ago and I can't find the vendor/maker again online. I can't find the paperwork/manual and the chime doesn't have the maker on it. I have been pleased with this door chime until about 6 months ago (I guess it has had a good life)

Does anyone else use this kind of system and could they recommend it? I need to replace it and it needs to be remote/wireless.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Open the back and you will see 5 wires. Red, Black, Blue, Green and White/Green.

Pull one out and you will have a WIRE LESS.

Hoss it down the street and then it will also be REMOTE

Home Depot has a simple system that is not expensive, like $35-40. (Lowes should have them also). Buy plenty of batteries, I think mine has lasted four months. Other than that,it works quite well. You can set to different sounds. We have the chime in the storage area 60 feet from the front door and it is plenty auditable.
HappyTrails, TheOlGen here.

I bought a remote door chime from a vendor/manufacturer in one of the Dakotas. Now how about that, I just found their brochure and instructions. Dakota Alert, Inc., P.O. Box 130, Elk Point, South Dakota 57025. Telephone 605-356-2772. What they sent me was called Wireless door transmitter and plug in receiver. This is not a motion detector but they might be able to help you with advise or equipment. Very helpful people. Give them a try.

I used it for about 7 years without any problems. Only stopped using it because I moved my shop to my home. I can't locate the transmitter it is probably in storage.

Was anything recently added to the building, such as a new cordless phone or wireless network? Is it possible something is conflicting?

By sensing movement, does it have a motion sensor like an alarm, or does it have a light beam that reflects off a special reflective surface?

Are the batteries ok?

One other idea: If your shop has an alarm, you can usually program it to sound an entry chime (at the keypads) if a door is opened. The doors have magnetic contacts. This is how we do it at our shop.

Some Other solutions:

I hope this is helpful

I knew I could count on you guys for help.

You can get one from Home Depot. You plug in the main part / receiver downstairs or back room into a power outlet. The detector is on the entrance door.
No batteries needed.

I have the same one, works great, for about $35.

We have photoelectric alarms on our store's front and back doors. They are plug-in type, so we do not have the issue of replacing batteries. Radio Shack is the brand; they have been dependable and trouble-free.

They use infrared light and reflectors, inconspicuous and very effective. The sender/receiver unit is placed on the ceiling, and the reflector is placed about 18" off the floor, so the light beam goes diagonally across the doorway, and always works. The front door's alarm has a relatively soft tone, but we also have a very loud, piezoelectric sounder in the back room for the front door, which we can hear even when the saw & dust collector are running.

I only wish there were more choices of tones/chimes. As might be expected, some -- but not all -- customers are "alarmed" by the sound. Someone occasionally stands in the doorway, obliviously making the alarm sound continuously... beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. If they just walk on through, it just says beep-beep.

On the other hand, if a thief were to "case the joint" prior to perpetration, he might sense that we are better prepared to thwart theives. A police officer pointed that out a few years ago, when three neighboring businesses were burglarized one weekend, but our store was skipped.

In good weather -- like today -- I enjoy opening the doors to feeeeel the breeeeze, without having to give up the door alarms.

Try Rapid Forms. They have the same one you are looking for a little cheaper than doorchime.com. They are the people who send you catalogs in the mail all the time, a division of NEBS(Business forms). Use a lithium battery for longer life available from Radio shack. I replaced the alkaline battery that lasted 7 months with the lithium on and am now going on 9 plus months without having to replace yet.

We have simple magnetic ones on our front and back doors. They work on a magnet and spring. Pull the door and the magnet releases and the spring forces a rod onto the chime. Thie is not wires or batteries. Works good if you have a small shop!

we got ours at radio shack (now called The Source) and it was easy to install. Doesn't work real well in the winter though, when it gets down to the -30C and lower - tends to freeze up.......

What's now called The Source? Radio Shack or the door chimes??

Radio Shack is where I got mine... don't know the brand offhand. Very reasonably priced.

Drives me nuts if someone stands by the wall near the door - it continues to beep until they move out of range. Or if I have the door ajar - it picks up reflections from cars going by outside and beeps "at will". **** Will.

Ok, I need to go and get one of those. My shop is very small, and the work area is just behind the counter with big windows so I can see anyone who pulls up. Most of the time anyway, But...

My mother is a little hard of hearing and she likes for there to be a bell of some kind on the door so she won't be caught off guard. The one I had up didn't suite her. ;)

Any hoo, She decides to hang christmas bells from the middle of the door. :D One day a lady walks in and when she opens the door the bells hit her square in the face, right on her glasses.

Luckily she was a good sport and nothing was broken or injured.

Our store alarm had a chime on it. We had it set up to just chime during the day, and full alarm at night. But I agree with Jim, it would have been nice to leave the door open for a breeze, and still have the door chime.
