I have XP Home Edition on an H/P Pavillion 783c.

I decided that I needed to upgrade Norton after the latest virus post.
So...the computer starts the download, and the little computer screen icon thingies down in the taskbar start blinking away, and I'm getting all kindsa bits. Then, all of a sudden, both little thingies STOP blinking, no bits are being loaded.
I can move the pointer over the little screens in the taskbar, and all of a sudden, the loading starts back.
I've noticed the same thing once in a while when the G is slow to load. My computer nor the server will be lit...I can move the pointer over the icons, WITHOUT clicking, and it starts loading.
Any ideas? Change meds? Change Dr?

So you're saying there were delays while transferring something over the internet, and the blinking icon was for network or modem activity?

My internet feed has been up and down all day because of network congestion; due to the new worms floating around. The Grumble was down many times today, too.

I bet this is the cause of your problem. Does that make sense?

Just to be sure, I suggest downloading and scanning with Ad-Aware. Spyware and adware can do all sorts of things to a computer.

Mike, I foolishly allowed Hotbar to be installed so OE could add little cute emoticons, etc. Now--increasingly--I'm getting pop-unders and pop-ups. I HATE this garbage. Will Spyware or something like it eliminate this or should I just disable/eliminate Hotbar for OE?

These intrusions make me unreasonably angry. Get over it?

Hotbar is a well known infection. Ad-aware will easily remove it for you, and the pop ups will be history... AD-AWARE can be downloaded at THIS PAGE ; down near the bottom.

After that, I suggest going to www.google.com and downloading their excellent free "google toolbar". It will block any other popups.

If you run WEATHERBUG, uninstall that too. (spyware). www.weather.com (weather channel) has a free one that's just as good.

I use the google toolbar and i love it. I'm glad it got Mike's stamp of approval. I always wondered if it did bad things to my computer. And those dang worms. I had three attempts yesterday and 5 today. Norton's seems to be picking them up, thankfully.

I did the google bar and disabled everything but the pop up blocker. I also use spybot and adaware and it is probably time to run them.
