The computer fairy dropped off 2 Compaq Deskpros for free. This includes 2 15" monitors, brand new black mice, and new black keyboards. Talk about your answered prayers. My wife was dreading losing our only computer to the new shop (I wasn't looking forward to it). We really needed one at the house, one in the office at the shop, and one at my pos table. I wasn't going to buy 2 computers right now. We were going to put this one at the pos area. This means my wife was going to have to do our paperwork including personal at the front counter of the store But now we don’t have that to worry about. My friend is the computer guy at a large company here. He "had some laying around ready for the dumpster". I just saved them from having to pay to trash these. Whoooo HOOO...
Boy is the joke ever on me! I come here bragging about my new computers and I don't have the Admin password for either. They have a fresh install of Windows2000 Pro and I can't even logon. I guess for now they do a find job holding the door open
A friend of my employee is the computer guru for a very large bank. They recently replaced all their laptops and ditched all their 2 year old IMB thinkpads. My emplyee was able to catch one on the way to the landfill.
I think that this happens all the time but its just too much trouble for the corporation to clean up the hard drive to securely give them away, so they just have them destroyed.
Actually my friend said that one time they spent hours "fixing up" several computers. They reformatted everyone, and made sure they worked. They sold them for near nothing and made sure everybody knew there were AS IS! Long story short his department became a tech line and complaint department for people who had just bought these computers. He ended that program! Now he smashes the harddrives and gives em away. I guess he accidently left one in mine.
Jay,
Try just hitting enter at the password screen or type "administrator". If they don't work start from floppy and reformat your harddrive with your software of choice.
"Hello thank you for calling Dell my name is Jerry how can I help you?"
"My computer is locked up and I can't get it to work!"
"Ummm hmmm I see..... Hit enter."
"Didn't do anything"
"Ouch IM sorry your going to have to reformat!"
"Your kidding me!"
"Im sorry sir. We did everything we could."
You could save them $1000's in troubleshooting.
Actually that works on all of the Windows OS that I know of except 2000 pro. Its the only version that uses this screen as a security thing instead of identifing the pc for network purposes. I called my buddy and he gave me the password.
