Okay, I probably should have known better but a word of caution to my fellow Wizard users. Don't use your compressed air nozzle to clean out the papery bits that seem to accumulate under your mat clamps. I've probably done this a dozen times without thinking about it and suffered no ill effects.

But... tonight when I have 8 oversized pieces with multi openings that are being picked up at 8am tomorrow morning to be driven down to Atlanta, I decided to clean everything out so that it wouldn't mess up any of my mats. Luckily I only ruined 1 mat and was able to finish the job by holding the mats down by hand.

Maybe I shouldn't be posting this because when I call Wizard in the am to have them walk me through how to fix it, I can't plead innocent :o

We use the air hose every day to remove the dust in the track. We never use the air to remove large mat cut-outs, so I don't know what happened.
What method did Wizard say you should use? Maybe Wizard should post this on their web site for everyone to read.

I think that the pressure from my air nozzle may have loosened the connection where the little clear air line goes into the vertical mat clamp. I was holding the air nozzle at least a foot away so I didn't think the air was hitting it that hard. I can't actually see what happened because I don't want to take the mat clamp off until tech support walks me through how to do it.

On the next cut I made after cleaning, the clamp couldn't hold down the mat so the blade drug the mat along the slip sheet.

I'll let you know in the morning...

The hold down hoses wear out and pop occasionally. I keep an extra so I can change one quickly.

I suspect it was a rotten coincidence.

It just popped and happened to happen after you cleaned.

Not actually related.

Temp fix

I'll have one of the techs call you.

There is a short-term temp fix in the Hardware Guide that will show you how to put a screw into the air line of the blown air clamp, allowing air pressure into the remaining air clamp, so you can keep cutting until a replacement arrives. Look in the Hardware Guide under Air Clamps > Air Clamp Temporary Fix.

It sounds like a bad coincidence. It sounds like you had the air hose a safe enough distance away to not have forced air into the Rail. However, if there was any sharp debris in the vicinity, like a broken blade tip, that could have been lodged into the Air Clamp, blowing it out. Thus, always take great care and wear safety goggle when using pressurized air.

Thanks so much, you have the best customer service! I just got a call from a tech and they're sending me the new part. It looks like Cliff was right, just an odd coincidence... Carry on. :kaffeetrinker_2:

That is what I was thinking Rick, but wouldn't that be more than 1/8 inch off?
Not necessarily. Sometimes I think I've got it as far as it will go but realize it has a smidge more before it hits the stop. That thing is kind of heavy. Unless I'm cutting a number of mats in a row, I usually hit the reset icon in order to avoid the constant jet plane noise. So that means I'm aligning the head a lot. I think my right arm is getting kinda "buff".
;) Rick

P.S. I developed the habit of putting my hand under the head when hitting the reset, to gude the head down gently. It seems cruel to just let it fall.

In the back of my mind I always felt like it would put stress on something every time I heard it go 'clunk'. But maybe it doesn't.

That is one of the differences with the Valliani. It shows me where home is. I don't have to show it.

I'd guess a consistent 1/8" is more likely a configuration problem.

Unless there is something PHYSICALLY stopping the head from being placed in the home position.

Yes, it can feel like you are all the way to home when you're not, for some machines more than others, but I would not expect that to be a consistent amount like 1/8".

So, first do your best to make sure there is nothing stuck somewhere stopping the head from homing to the left. If you can't find anything and you're pretty sure it is getting all the way over (maybe visit someone else and look at their home position?) then I would call tech support and have them walk through fixing the configuration.

Yeah It started this after I upgraded the software so I bet it's a config prob. I will work with it more and contact tech support I guess. Thanks all for the input.

Frequency, it sounds like your Horizontal Home may be off. Cut a 2x2" with 2" borders, NOT cutting the outside. From the back, measure the left edge of the mat to the opening; if it is not 2" adjust your Horizontal Home. From the back, measure the bottom edge of the mat to the opening; if it is not 2" adjust your Vertical Home. Increase the numbers to make is larger, decrease the numbers to make them smaller.

Yeahhhhhh, 8 simple adjustments later..... 2 2 2 2 .... thanks Dani.... I knew that's what I needed to do, I just needed some encouragement and reassurance that I was changing the right numbers.

Great!

Great to hear!
