I just got the following email from Don Mar.

Dear Valued Customer,

After careful evaluation Don Mar has decided to close our New Jersey location as of December 31, 2019. We would like to thank all of our Don Mar of New Jersey customers who supported us through our 20 years in business there.

We will continue to service our customers in that area out of our Rhode Island location with UPS delivery for wood and metal chops only.

Again, thank you for your years of patronage and please contact our office at 1-800-556-7428 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Donald W. Marino, Sr.

This sucks. I know that it will affect several grumblers in the NJ/PA area.

Is there anyone in this area other than LJ that delivers on a scheduled basis to this area? I dropped LJ when they stopped carrying Crescent and I don't know if they would have me back.

I'm guessing there's about a hundred percent chance they'd have you back. We never dropped 'em, and are still pleased with their product quality, packaging and customer service.

Apparently disgruntled customers have been burning up the phone and email lines to DonMar Central. Got this email this morning.

Questions and Concerns.

I wouldn't hold my breath that they might reverse this decision.

I'm sure they thought long and hard about the pros and cons of this decision, and expected this kind of reaction.

An update on using LJ. A real Catch 22.

I called LJ today and found out that I still have an account. Yeah!!!!!!

The bad news, I am a customer for FedEx deliveries only, not for their truck deliveries. They have a rule that you had to have 5K in deliveries in the past year to get truck deliveries. What's a new customer to do? You can't have 5K in deliveries if you weren't a customer.

The person I talked to was a CS rep and not a decision maker. I have to call back later to talk to a decision maker.

It also turns out that LJ closed their PA distribution center. PA is now served out of Baltimore. The rep wasn't entirely sure if my area still has a delivery truck. Can any of you in PA that uses LJ comment on that?

PA is served by a delivery hub in the original Philly location, the same routes as before. My delivery is via PA 2 day truck route that swings into NW NJ on the way back to base.

Sussex County was dropped from the NY center over a year ago due to low volume in spite of being less than 40 miles West.. I'm the only one that they accommodated with the PA route.

Larry, I got an email back from the York location of International Moulding and they said they do have a delivery route up to NEPA. I'm waiting to hear back from a sales rep with more details.

It's a delivery hub but not a stocking location. I thought that I might be able to do a "will call" from there but no. They transfer stock from Baltimore each week for the weekly deliveries and the trucks leave from there.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M ON PROBATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After much todo and talking to numerous folk I am on an LJ route although I am on probation. They were hesitant about letting back since I didn't spend 5K last year. They also wanted to check to see if the route was overloaded. At first they thought it was. So they let me back in but with admonitions that I spend 5K a year. And they will be checking on me. They mentioned the 5K amount several times.

I'm putting in my first order tomorrow for Thursday's delivery. I am almost out of .118" FF3 acrylic so this came just in time. My initial order will be about $900 so that should keep them happy for awhile.

Apparently there will be no more updates. Although they promised answers to our concerns, the promised email was never sent.

Time for some final thoughts. Chip in with your own.

Besides the fact that they abandoned the NJ/PA marker, I am extremely disappointed at how they went about it. :fire::fire: Shutting down operations without prior notice is a poor business practice. They knew prior to Christmas that they were going to do this. Why not give us some notice so we could get in a final large order? Or just more notice than they gave. I'm still pi$$ed thinking about this. :fire::fire::fire::fire:

If I know a framer in their remaining market, I could never recommend them. Their habit of discontinuing mouldings once you had relied on them was another bad practice.

For those of you that are customers in their remaining market, I would carefully reconsider my ongoing relationship with them. You might wake up one morning in the same boat.

Yes Larhry,
I feel your pain. My guess is that they would not have enough stock to fill orders if they let the word out. I guess that we need to move on and reconfigure our suppliers.

I assume they are taking these strong actions in order to stay in business.
I have noticed a lot of changes in a short time.
No more sales reps
A lot of moulding vendors they once had, are no longer represented.
Higher prices

I will keep ordering from them as I’d hate to see them go under. But it is getting more difficult to keep track of discontinued and new offerings as their website is not strong.
