Has anyone heard of a woman selling custom dog & cat dolls to frame shops? She said she was from Georgia but has a Florida phone number. She also was from Lancaster Pa at one time. Is she legit?

Thanks,
Michelle

Check the archives, someone posted a "scam" by someone of this description. I think I saw it on the grumble and on the Hitchhikers

I don't know about this woman, but if you're interested in cat dolls, I have a good friend that makes them. She is a member of both Foothills and Southern Highlands Craft Guilds.

Thanks for the sugesstions, but I have checked the archives for the Grumble and did not find anything on this matter. I do not receive emails from the Hitchhikers, so I have no way to look into this.

Have any framers done business with this woman? Or is she just a scam artist?

Thank you,
Michelle

Betty, could you ask your friend if it would be OK to post her name & number on The Grumble? I am very interested in handling dog & cat dolls. We have a large gift department and we are right next door to one of San Diegos best veterinary hospitals.

Thanks,

John

I just thought of something else you guys probably wished I hadn't shared. About six or seven years ago at a large swap meet in San Diego, a person was selling stuffed cat toys from the Orient that were made from real cats. The city council passed an ordinance against such practice and it was stopped, I think customs also got involved.

Sorry about that story, just thought it would be of interest.

Michelle, please be careful. The notice on the Hitch hiker was reguarding a similarly described woman. She uses an alias of Jeanne Higgins, her company is Ragtime Critters and Kin Designs LTD. It is a line of one year old stuffed cats and dogs. The framer who posted it said that complaints had been filed with the Newnan Georgia police dept. and she has taken between $60-$600 dollars from various vendors and never delivered.
Hope this isn't too late. Sounds like she's headed for us...
The police would like her license plate number if she happens to stop in to any of your shops.

Sure, I'll ask her.

Thanks Amy.

Jeanne Higgins is the woman that was in our shop. She brought in several dog dolls and told us we could have custom dogs made to look like our dog. All we needed to do was send a photo and $60.00 per dog to her Ga address.

I saw red flags when she was in the shop, but did I pay attention to them? My brother works with me, but was not in the shop that day. When he came in the next day I told him about this woman. He remembered reading something on hitch hiker on this matter, but wasn't sure if it was the same woman.

Thank you for confirming this. I did, however purchase 3 dogs and 1 cat doll from her that day. One of the dogs is a Springer Spaniel, like I have and the cat matches my cat.

I noticed she ran straight to my bank and cashed the check I gave her. I wish I had known the police were looking for her. Guess I better pay closer attention to the grumble and sign up for the hitch hiker.

Thanks everyone,
Michelle

A REAL craft/artist, if you want excellent work is Annie Bell at brooms.dolls@mindspring.com .

In fact, if you carry gifts in your gallery check out foothillscraftguild.org. We (I) am working on getting the members listed on the site with their e-mail and/or web addresses (if they have one yet). These folks are SERIOUS professional craft/artists. (For you folks in NC, Annie also belongs to the Southern Highlands Craft Guild, as do I).

Betty

Michelle, why don't you contact the police in Newnan, Georgia and tell them about your encounter. The more information you give them the better! Too bad, her critters sound really cute!
