I just picked this painting up the other day along with 40 other very old frames.
So far I am told this painting done on canvas dates back to to at least the mid 1800's. So my question who could it be?

Looks kinda like Andre the Giant.

Many itinerant painters plied their talents across New England in the late 1800's. Some funeral portraits were basically complete and the artists just filled in the facial parts. That portrait could be of anyone the important part is to find out who painted it.

Interesting. If you look at the area around the head you can see that there is some discontinuity in texture and coloration, so maybe this IS one of those fill-in-the-head things.

When were people wearing bow ties and collars like that? It looks there are tensioning wedges on the back like for a canvas, but it also seems like the art is mounted on a shingle.
