We saw a demo of xyron pro4400's adhesive application and we really like it. It's acid free, tidy, quick. Seems too good to be true. Does anyone use this product and what do you think of it? Thanks for the feedback!

I'm a former Xyron dealer and still own a 1200 and 2500 machine. They are excellent performers and well made here in the good old USA.

It's acid free.............

"Acid free" means nothing.

Ammonia is acid free.

Be very careful when seeing the term, "acid free" as it is misleading and misunderstood.

Crescent wood pulp paper mats are "acid free" because they dump a bunch of buffering agent into the mix - but because the lignin has not been removed, they will revert to an acidic state and are inappropriate for conservation framing.

Actually, "mounting" and conservation framing are a contradiction of terms :), but depending on the anticipated use, the system you are looking at might be fine.

Just didn't want the determining factor of the appropriateness of the adhesive to be that it is "acid free."

good heads up. we wouldn't be using it for anything that would need conservation mounting. we would be using it instead of spray mounting (which we know we shouldn't be using anymore anyway, so please no grief about that).
i was just hoping to hear from someone who has actually used it for adhesive application and not just as the laminator it's marketed as.

As I posted before, I don't have personal day-in-day-out experience with the Pro4400, but the commercial grade Xyron products are amazing tanks of machines. Before Xyron switched from dealerships to manufacturer sales reps I considered closing my brick and mortar and selling Xyron along with a few other product lines. My close rate when demonstrating the machines in schools, hospitals and other organizations was nearly 90%. I never really cared so much about the money made on machines sales because the idea was to place machines. The consumables was where the real money was made.

I would advise you to analyze the material costs. The Pro4400 is a large machine and the cartridges are not inexpensive.

Xyron does make some great products.

:D
Thanks so much Dave. I passed on the 'analize your money' thing to my boss. That's a great point. I'm just so happy that no one hates them. So at least now we know that if we decide to get it, we'll be happy with it. Thanks again.
