Last week I posted asking for a frame that was discontinued. Someone let me know that this frame was discontinued several years ago. This makes me wonder why this is still listed on our Full Calc program! We update fairly frequently to update pricing and weed out discontinueds. If it was indeed discontinued a few years ago it certainly shouldn't still be in Full Calc. Lately I noticed we have been getting several discontinued frames from other companies too that have been coming up in Full Calc which is a major hassle for us.

For those of you who use Full Calc, what has your experience been with discontinued frames?

What about discontinued frames with other framing pos programs?

Well, I reasoned it thus:
FullCalc (and I guess other POS programs) wouldn't remove discontinued mouldings, because a lot of shops buy in bulk length. It wouldn't matter if it were discontinued if you had it in your basement. It seems to me that keeping track of discontinueds is the job of the sales rep.

Perhaps there is a way that the POS software could indicate that a moulding is discontinued….but which would still allow it to remain listed for those who may have some still in stock at their shop!!!.........I can’t imagine that would be rocket science…….

There is probably an option (I know there is in some POS software) when updating your database, to "Remove Discontinueds". It may be buried in one of your setup configurations, not at the actual update process.

I'm not sure how all the others handle this, but ours gives us the option, after a one-step-auto-update. It goes out via the internet to their site, compares just the lines you carry, and automatically gets just the (mat, moulding, and software) updates you need. It will print out the new and discontinued, and you have to click on a special button if you want to purge the discontinued items from the database. We're using Lifesaver 4.01, which I highly recommend.

What we've done in the past, if we have discontinued stock, is to purge it from the database. Then we go in and manually re-add it under a special vendor name called "SS" (Salesaver). This is our internal code for "discontinued". We'll often give those items a special price, re-barcode em, and display them in a special place within reach of the counter. Otherwise, I fear it might sit back there for years

When we receive an update from Soft Touch Solutions FrameReady and it is entered into the system there is an option to flag items as deleted.

We can either:

leave the entry as is
flag the entry as deleted
delete the entry

In addition to Jerome's comments, I use FrameReady and by doing a filter of "Discontinued & Sample Mouldings" I get a short list of any moulding that I have samples of that are now discontinued. These get removed, if I don't have any footage in stock, or get marked as discontinued, for those that I have in stock.
