Grumblers. Here is a quest for you.
I had a customer bring in about 35 out of several thousand photographs in a collection she has had packed away in the attic for a generation or two.
She knows absolutely nothing about this collection. She does not collect nor care about this collection. This collection just turned up in an inhertance sitution.
She has already been offered $5000 for a couple folders full of these photographs.
She came to me and asked if I would do some research on them and find out what they are really worth.
This is turning out to be quite an interesting investigation.
I searched the internet and found that a University in California has an extensive collection on Dick Whittington, however they are not privy to the value of the collection since it was donated. ????
Then I contacted a photography gallery in New Orleans which collects vintage photographs. They have never heard of Dick Whittington.
I have since learned that their was a Photography studio in the 40's in Hollywood that was called the Dick Whittington Studio. But it has since gone out of business and no one knows how or who to contact anymore.
The images are all black and white. They are stamped on the back by the artist: "Dick" Whittington and signed. The images are of Hollywood stars, such as Edgar Bergen & with his famous vintriliquists puppet, Charlie McCarthy, buildings in L.A. and street scenes.
I am at a loss. I do not know where else to look or who would possible know about this collection.
Can any one help?
