So, there I was last night, backing up my POS (you do that too, right??) to a USB flash drive.
I got an error message: Device is write protected.
I was a bit puzzled, this error usually comes up with floppy disks, not USB flash drives! So, looked at the drive a bit closely, And sure enough, there was a little button (nicely hidden) that protects the drive from being over-written - just like a floppy disk!
Not all USB flash drives have this feature (mine is Memorex), but if you get this error message, just look at the device and push the button to get rid of the message. And continue backing up.
