I need to glue a bronze painted plastic medallion to some suede mat board I have for a customer. She doesn't want a circle cutout, like a normal mat, just use the suede as a backing board as such. This medallion has an edge around it similar to a coin's edge. I have thought about cutting a piece of mat and glueing it to the back of the piece and then glueing that to the suede. BUT.. will the suede surface accept glue? This medallion is 3" in diameter and she wants 2" of the suede showing around. I am cutting a custom frame to complete this project. Anyone have a better way?

Thanks

joe,

If you are going to glue it down, why not just glue it directly to the suede mat?? It doesn't sound like anything that is "preservation bound" and it sounds like there isn't alot of weight involved, so the suede will adhere well to any good goopy clear adhesive such as Aleen's Tacky Glue or even Maxim wood glue.

I don't see a problem getting it to stay in place on the suede at all.

But . . .

If the adhesive you use says, "Not for use on fabric," believe them and use something else.

If you're worried about the suede you could also lightly score a circle a bit smaller than the medallion to remove the facing paper with the suede, exposing the delicious soft white underbelly of the core which is more agreeable to adhesives.

I have two glues; my Corner Weld and the fabric glue I used to make my frame sample display. I had planned to use the fabric glue. I guess the thing I obsessing about is whether the thing will stay glued to the suede without a totally smooth back because of the slight ridge on the back of the medallion. I'll just glue the sucker and see what happens, it should be ok.

That's the ticket, joe, glue that sucker down!!

(If all else fails, you could always resort to the dreaded and much maligned SILICONE glue!!)
