Rep was in today. Bought the samples, disk, print, etc These have been available for about a month now. If you have the samples, have you sold any yet? Who is buying them? I just started Facebook/Twitter/Blog entries for him, so we will see what happens.

I have sold two of them without the samples and have a few more customers interested when we get the samples. It's not an every day sale but something good to hang on the wall.

I have a Tattoo Parlor next door and showed the guys the samples. They liked them, but they liked the ones without skull and bone designs. The Tiki, tropical and Koi patterns were more attractive. They were a bit price resistant, but we'll see.

I showed the ad in DECOR to my friend with the massive skull ring and skull belt buckle, etc. He went bananas over the Tiki - go figure!

I think it's pretty cool that the largest profiles have my initials on them!

:icon21:

I got them maybe a month ago, but haven't sold any yet. Granted, the boss doesn't believe in having framed examples out so I can't frame something in one to help sell them. I really just got them because I thought they were cool, though.

Also, can anyone that has sold them comment on the quality of the moulding? Looking at wood the samples are made of worries me that they are gonna cut and join like carp.

I received my samples last week and sat down Saturday and sent this
email out to every Harley-Davidson Dealer and Tat shop within 100 miles.
I also attached the pdf file showing the mouldings, Dennis Mathewson's Logo and his bio.

You've got to see these mouldings to appreciate them!!!

This was a modified version of a sample letter contained on the CD-R they sent with the samples.

I did have one customer come in Monday and look at them. They said they'd be back with some items to frame with them. We'll see...

Total honesty here, and no offense intended, but that sounds......moronic. I didn't look at the cd that came with the moulding, so this is the first time I saw that, but I think that if I worked at a Harley shop or tattoo parlor I would either think that sounded stupid or be mildly offended. However, let us know if it works out for you, if it does I may be sending a few emails.....

I do like the line "Change your frame of mind about picture framing." The rest does have a bit of a patronizing ring to it. Sounds like an old person trying to talk like a young person. Fo shizzle! ;)

Did you get physical samples, etc., in your hands?
When the rep was here I bought them too but are on back order and that was over a couple of weeks ago. What gives?
I think they are cool and will sell especially well here, but I have to show them to sell them. I'm planning to put them up on my website whenever I get the marketing materials they promised me.

That line is the line I added to the canned letter
.. and yes, I am an old flatulence!

I just went to the site, and those DMZ ones
are very creative. Very 'skater/Twilight/tattoo/biker'-ish.

Here are a few I'd use:

The skulls are really well done, too, but it would
definitely be a niche design.

Rep showed me his samples yesterday. I don't know when I will get them. I assumed, next week, but maybe not. I think these have to be marketed like you would market Ed Hardy--name recognition. We always talk about mouldings with designer labels. Here they are, albeit not in the form I would have expected!

Wow, those are really tacky.. although I can see how it would appeal to a certain, select group of people. The nature ones are the least offensive out of the bunch imo.

I think the email I sent out wasn't offensive because it was hilarious and meant to get attention. It was, after all, one of DC's recommended letters with slight modification. Don't think I'd send it out to my regular clientele, but the biker crowd and the tat people are folks who do have a sense of humor.

I look at the DM mouldings as another design element and one that is different than most offerings. The smaller profiles could be used tastefully in a stacked frame. The art would have to dictate whether or not they are appropriate.

I picked up these samples at the show in Las Vegas and have them on the wall. Haven't sold any yet but expect to, since I'm right in the middle of the largest Harley rally in the country each August. I'll frame some biker art / photography / vintage Harley posters. Might also have a few ready-mades around, possibly with laser cut mats to go with them. Kinda looking forward to see if they have any "curb appeal".

The patriotic themed ones bother me because I would not want to see the eagle and the flag upside down on the bottom rail.

My younger brother is Army ROTC and this is exactly what he said. He told me that if his Sgt. saw that he would freak. I chose not to put the patriotic ones out, I have ex military in my family and don't want to take the chance of offending a vet.

You guys are so serious about this! Think Bella Las Vegas or Roma Lavo. Eye candy for your walls that sets you apart, and every once in a while you will sell them. Meanwhile, everyone else knows that you are the go-to place for something different.

And market the heck out of them! Good going Dave. You are marketing them the way they should be promoted.

I bought all the samples and they are on my wall.

If I don't sell one, I don't care! They are eye candy and something unique to start conversation, and the mindset that you don't always have to frame simple.

I am advertising the new samples in the spring neighborhood newsletter to spark interest and hopefully bring in some people!

I've already had a few laughs with regards to large skull frames. Perfect for that flower still life acrylic!

Interesting takes on the Patriotic line. Other than the more "Tribal", the only ones that have gotten any attention have been the pickle suits (who almost never come in). Flags and Liberty upside-down or on the side never seemed to bother them..... it was the Spirit that counts.

But then, I'm sure there are those that would have a problem with me in a white T-shirt and blue jeans with my red Crocs. Or a 6 year old in a parade dress with a flag for a cape and bunting mixed in his wheels.

Just as there are those that have a hard problem with recruiters on High School property, four letter words uttered in public, and mothers nursing.

If there were Hummer's all over the moulding, would there be a problem? Other than it would have a very tiny niche . . .

With 14 million bikers, 157 million wannabes, 8,700 tattoo parlors, 19 billion tattoos, 1,100 registered Koi installers, 30 million Hawaii tourist every year.... there has got to be at least some market . . .

Meanwhile I need to get back to coloring in the flags on this order.

I bought some of the old Max moulding with the horse heads all over it and the upside down ones always bother me.

Just sayin.

Plus I'm not gonna spend that kind of money to buy corner samples (and I am not having a problem with paying for corner samples!) - but if they are just gonna be eye candy forget it!

I still have some of that :)

Thinkin about these.... we're going to decorate the place up big time for halloween.

Goin' with a Godfather theme for Halloween, Johnny?

Haha, maybe one year! Creeeeepy theme again this year I think. Late September we put up fall decorations. When you walk through the front doors there is a large square ceramic tile floor. Around the floor is carpet and above the carpet is a loft. The ceiling goes all the way up the clock tower is and barreled on top. We put corn stalks against the loft pillars going around the tile floor and pumpkins on the floor. Paper pumpkins hang in the air on invisible thread going up to the barrel ceiling. Moving to the right from this entrance is the framing design area then past that another gallery area. Indian corn and gourds and pumpkins and fabric leaves are put around the rest of the gallery. Closer to Halloween the Employee's Only sign is replaced with a Morgue sign, fabric spiders go on the walls, latex bats and rats, crows, spooky signs, styro gravestones and a styro half-round stone barred window thing with red lit-up eyes staring out goes under the spiral staircase to the loft. A smoke machine will dump fog over the loft edge into the lower gallery. We buy more stuff for it every year. I'll take pics this year.

I think we'll take some of these mouldings and make little mirrors and stuff to sell. We have a bunch of spooky themed art too.

I think that if any company can make a new group of people sit up and notice a product, they've done something right.

Sometimes, people just want a little wicked :) <<< Don't steal it. You know you wanna. I'm putting it on my page with the samples.

Think of the album covers we could frame in these things!

I don't love them all, but I do love enough of them to invest.

I'll be calling them tomorrow.

I have enough of the stuff left over - I should frame up a nice photo of Don Corleone - LOL! I bet some weirdo would buy it - the horse people I thought would buy it spend too much on their horses to afford it!

anything it takes! I have two bins in the back of my last row which are dedicated to keeping mouldings that should make me think real hard before buying boxes, no matter how old the moulding is. The horses are in there. Arquati colorwood. Some bendix poly that you can take one end of the 10 ft stick and touch the other end with it. Some Stewart, #### a couple Piedmont.

Yet I think I'm gunna order some of these from Direct Moulding. I ordered the samples of the crazy stuff and also their Koa. Going to have to pick a few and order boxes though, because I just can't justify the price diff between chop and box.

Uh, John, that is how you end up with boxes of weird molding left over.

Don't have that problem with buying chops...LOL.

BTW, I have one stick plus of the narrow gold horses - which do you have?

I sold all my gold horses, mostly to horse people, but it took a while.

Have you seen Dennis Mathewson's Cosmic Arts web site? Take a look at his art. Those jellyfish are his best sellers and they sell for a lot.
I maintain that this line will sell on name recognition if his name is well enough known. We've been asking for name brand mouldings. Here they are. He has more in the works as well.

Check Dennis out on Facebook.

Sorry I've been out of commission for a while, getting my ticker checked.

I think they will sell too and we're not looking to discount them, I just don't want to pay the difference between box and chop for the product.

We received the Mathewson samples and all their Koa ones as well today. Quality is excellent.

Mar I have 900733, 2 1/2 wide silver

DM's New Moulding

I've sold #424305 to cap a Freddie Kruger 3-d photograph shadowbox -- it looks JUST like his skin!!
I also used the smaller pewter skulls to frame a Phlebotomy certificate, kinda creepy, but my customer loved it.
I've suggested to my gothic loving customers, the pewter skulls capped with Roma's larger shiny Lavo moulding.... would make a great mirror!
When I'm done with the Freddie stuff I'll post it on my FaceBook page (just search The Artisan Framer) I can't seem to post pics here.
I did an Elvira photo in the smaller red Lavo, with fangs cut in the mat!! So cool.

Very cool Lisa, thanks for the ideas. The Elvira one sounds great!

I agree about the mirrors... Closer to halloween I'll put out standard sized beveled mirrors with some of this moulding and another standard moulding, the mirror inserted with bendable points with coroplast behind it. Then the customer can swap out frames after the decorations come down. (If they want to!)

Haven't sold one yet, only had them a couple days now, but some customers have said that they have to go out and find something to frame in them. Which means I really need to find something to have for them to frame in them!

I had the same type of thing happen... our delivery driver from a local distributor saw the mouldings and said he had begged his company to put them in but they wouldn't. He asked me to get a stick of moulding in for him. When I asked him what he planned on framing in it he said, "I don't know, but I'll sure find something!".

Haven't sold a DM yet but just sold the horses haha. Kentucky Derby program and tickets.

Baer,

I would like you to know I sold my first DM moulding today: the small natural skulls. They will be surrounding a numbered Salvidor Dali print. Will look fabulous! I'll try to remember to post it when done.

So see? Was not a fruitless purchase. And the samples still spark lots of laughs and comments.

Oh Sarah.... I would NEVER say buying those samples was a "fruitless" purchase....

In fact... I love how Dennis incorporated the pineapple in lots of the designs. :D

Tacky? H#LL NO!! Gawd I love all that "strange" stuff.....Now if they just had a nice European dragon...L.(Customer complaining about designs upside down?! Honey, it`s a frame, a border..the pattern repeats all the way round, somebody`s gotta be at the bottom....Go soak your head!)

I just recieved a email from isiposters, showing a line of Ed Hardy prints. Might work well with some of these mouldings.

here's a photo.

can't even tell it's skulls. Which kinda sucks. But I think it turned out well and I'm sure the customer is pointing it out.

See, now THAT is cool! L.

So I just received my samples today - HOLY COW!!!! They are so cool!

I sold one Tiki frame already and my customer went bananas over it and he was drooling on the rest of the samples.

How are they doing for all y'all? I am pretty psyched to start pushing them. Plus I hear there is a new DM line coming very soon.

Can't wait to see them!

:)

I faxed in my credit application to Direct Moulding.... followed up with a call to Direct Moulding.... left a message. It has been a couple of months now. Still no contact. They must be real busy.
